Review of China’s Translator Teacher Development over Nearly Thirty Years

Abstracts: Based on the framework of foreign language teacher development research, this paper conducts a comprehensive analysis on the literature of China’s translator teacher development over nearly thirty years and classifies the current outcomes into internal and external researches featuring in four research topics, i.e. teacher survival and development, teacher professionalism, teacher development modes and approaches, and teacher’s emotion, cognition and role. Then it points out the problems in the translator teacher development, together with relevant national policies, and highlights the future trends.

Problems and Solutions of the Debate between Form and Spirit in Literary Translation

Abstract: The debate between form and spirit is an important topic in Chinese translation history. It exists largely because a consensus is not reached about the concept of form and the dialectical relation between form and spirit is not fully understood. Possible solutions to such problems include clarifying the levels and constitutive elements of form in literary translation, breaking through the binary opposition by adopting a thinking mode of dividing one into three, such as placing similarity in meaning as a link between that in form and that in spirit, endowing form with life and taking it as a kind of representation of the author or translator’s life force in order to achieve the purpose of conveying spirit through form. Formal meaning is of vital importance in conveying the spirit of the original text and it can be realized not only by modeling the form in the original text, but also by creating a new form in the target text. Harmony between formal meaning and conceptual meaning produces the spirit and charm of a text, which guarantees the translated text itself is an organic whole full of vital force.

To Learn the Translation Theory through Translation Examples: A Case Study of the Equivalent Effect Translation Theory

Abstract: This paper proposes that to truly understand a translation theory, a better way is to read the theorist’s own translations, as well as his theory. The essence of Jin Di’s equivalent effect translation theory is to respect the concrete facts of the original text. The paper expounds Jin’s theory through criticism of a highly claimed translation and students’ homework, and clarifies some misunderstandings, such as Jin is a rigidly literal translator.

A Study on the Evolution of Jin Di’s Equivalent Effect Translation Theory

Abstract: This paper diachronically studies the evolution of Jin Di’s equivalent effect translation theory. Jin’s theory has roughly gone through three stages, i.e. the trial and exploration stage before the 1980s, the absorption and integration stage between the 1980s and the 1990s; the transcendence and innovation stage after the year 2000. The dynamic analysis on the development stages of the theory confirms the complementary and mutually reinforcing relationship between translation theory and practice. The study aims to help the current translation circle realize that translation thoughts and translation theory can be compared to spark and torch, respectively sporadic perceptual knowledge and a systematic ideological system.

The Historical Writing in Ngugi wa Thiong’o’s

Abstract:The historical writing in Ngugi wa Thiong’o’struthfully shows Kenya’s history, institutions and social crisis, which can be regarded as a brief history of Mau Mau Uprising. Ngugi tells the grand history from the perspectives of ordinary people and reveals the trauma during the colonial period, and the non-linear narrative strategy reflects realistic issues in Kenya. The historical writing in the novelmarks the maturity of Ngugi’s writing. While inheriting the characteristics of the period of rudiment, it opens the door of the period of development of Kenyan English literature, and undertakes the mission of African English literature after national independence.

From Colony to Country: National Imagination in the History of English Canadian Poetry

Abstract:Canadian poetry over the last two centuries develops a historical path stretching from colonialism to nationalism to multiculturalism. This path can be seen clearly through the perspective of the national imagination by analyzing important works and poetic movements through each ideological change. In both times of continuity and moments of revolution, the national imagination evolves and reveals different interpretations in different historical and cultural contexts, which in turn reflects the Canadian national identity. Through the lens of national imagination, we can not only gain an overall glimpse of English Canadian poetry over the last two centuries, but an understanding of the distinct national psychological paradigm of Canada.

The Influence of Chinese Ancient Poetic Theory on the Development of Japanese Poetic Discourse

Abstract: Among the many genres of Chinese literature, poetry is one of the earliest and well-developed genres. There are a lot of famous poets and theoretical works on poetry in the history. These poetic theories were introduced to Japan by the Sui, Tang, and Ming envoys through the ancient maritime Silk Road along with other literary styles during the ancient literary exchanges between China and Japan. These theories have an important impact on the development of Japanese literature. Through the absorption, digestion and innovation of Chinese poetic theory in each era, a poetic discourse system with unique characteristics of Japan is eventually formed.

The Image of China Depicted by Bofane in

Abstract:, one of In Koli Jean Bofane’s masterpieces, might be the most outstanding African novel which highlights Chinese factors, such as Chinese characters, Chinese classic quotations, Chinese historical celebrities, etc. And the most prominent factor is one of the novel’s two characters: Zhang Xia, a young man from China. Zhang Xia is seen by Isookanga, the other main protagonist, a Congolese, as a successful political consultant, a potential economic partner, and a trustworthy friend with mutual respect. By all these Chinese factors, Bofane portrays a quite positive image of China.

Material Records and the Spread of Silk Road Culture in the Literature of Chosun Envoys in the 18th Century

Abstract: In the 18th century, China and Chosun, as well as the Silk Road and the world, were in the early stage of transformation, and the records of related objects gradually increased. The agricultural silkworm economy and textile economy represented by silk reached its peak in China in the 18th century, which was recorded by Chosun envoys in literature and had an impact on the national economy and people’s livelihood. Chosun intellectuals extend meibutsu learning tradition in Chinese literature, the silk road culture communication is also recorded by Chosun envoys in the silk road literature. East Asia rheology takes the cue from the silk road culture. These records expand the propagation path of the silk road, and further enrich the diversity of eastern literature of the silk road and its material culture.

Research Hotspots and Evolution Trend of Second Language Acquisition in China Based on CiteSpace (1993-2019)

Abstract: This paper uses bibliometrics to visually analyze the categories in the field of second language acquisition in the past 27 years, with 1,891 papers on second language acquisition published by CSSCI and core journals in CNKI database as data sources. With CiteSpace5.1 software keywords co-occurrence, clustering analysis and keyword time zone map visualization operation, the study finds that the perspective of second language acquisition research is constantly expanding and has shown a trend of integration with neuroscience, neurobiology and other natural sciences, mainly focusing on cognition-based language transfer, vocabulary acquisition, dynamic system theory, universal grammar, etc. Since 2007, second language acquisition research in China has been in the stage of rapid development, with an average of 122 articles published every year. Current research hotspots include third language acquisition, corpus research, second language processing, event-related potential (ERP), etc. The cooperation between second language acquisition and other disciplines shows an unbalanced development trend, for example, studies from sociocultural perspectives are not rich and scattered.
