[基本用法]

1. 引导名词性从句

Where he comes from is a secret to all of us. （主语从句）

The problem is where we can borrow so much money. （表语从句）

They didnt tell me where I could meet them. （宾语从句）

I have no idea where the highway leads. （同位语从句）

在名词性从句中，引导词where是各地高考的热点，应引起我们足够的重视。

例1 After looking at the toy for some time， he turned around and found where his parents were missing.

解析 where→that或删除。语境说的是他发现父母不见了，而不是发现父母不见的地点，且found后是一个宾语从句，句子意思与成分完整，因此应该用只起连接作用的that引导，也可将其省略。

例2 Zhuhai， located in the Pearl River Delta， is a city and Special Economic Zone， in Guangdong Province， China. The name means Zhuhai is _______ the Pearl River flows into the South Sea.

解析 该题考查表语从句，根据语境“……珠海就是珠江流入南海的地方”，可知该题应填where。

点拨 （1）where引导的名词性从句经常可以翻译成“……之所在”，表示抽象的地点。如：

There have been frequent traffic accidents in China recently， and thats where people are concerned.

（2）where引导的名词性从句通常不与介词搭配，但可以与from结合使用。如：

No matter how far you may fly， never forget where you come from.

2. 引导状语从句

Where there is a will， there is away. 有志者，事竟成。

We must stay where there is water. 我们必须待在有水的地方。

where引导地点主语从句也是高考的热点，因此应引起同学们足够的重视。

例3 ________ he once felt like giving up， he now has the determination to push further and keep on going.

解析 Where。句意是“曾经让他感到想放弃的地方，现在他决心继续前进”。这里“让他感到想放弃的地方”应该是where引导的地点状语从句。要注意的是首字母必须大写。

例4 Back at my desk I placed Kris cards right ________ I could see it the rest of the day—a little of the reminder of the power of love.

解析 where。根据语境“……将卡片放在我能看见的地方……”可知这里应该是where引导的地点状语从句。

点拨 對于where引导的地点状语从句，有些同学们很容易将其与where引导的定语从句相混淆。where引导的定语从句，从句前有一个表示地点的名词作先行词，where可以替换成“介词+which”；而where引导的状语从句前则没有先行词。

3. 引导定语从句

This is the small village where the spent his childhood.

如果先行词在从句中做主语、宾语、表语时，应用which或that。如：

This is the village which was destroyed by a terrible earthquake several years ago.

where在定语从句中作状语，这是各地高考试卷中语法填空题和短文改错考题中常考的热点问题。

例5 When harvest came around， he was already selling herbs， vegetables and cotton in the market ________ people from the towns met regularly.

解析 where。根据句意及主从句之间的关系，我们可以知道本题是考查定语从句，先行词在定语从句中作地点状语，因此根据语法填空题的考查要求，可知本题应填where。

例6 Football is a sport ________ players hold the ball and run with it， like in rugby.

解析 where。根据句意及主从句之间的关系，知该题是考查定语从句，先行词在定语从句中作地点状语。
