Challenges for Agriculture after Chinas Entry into WTO
China is feeding 25 percent of the worlds population with only 7 percent of the worlds arable land. Chinas entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) has brought both opportunities and challenges.
1.The Positive Impacts on Chinas Entry into WTO
China will benefit from the preferential treatment in free trade, especially in tariff reduction. China will unconditionally obtain the most?鄄favored?鄄nation status with all WTO members. The entry will help China accelerate its agriculture reform and sharpen the competitive edge of Chinas farm products in the international market.
2.The Negative Impacts on Chinas Entry into WTO
China will have to open its domestic market and revoke all non?鄄tariff restrictions on imported farm products. As the governments protective policies on domestic farm products begin to be phased out, foreign farm products at lower prices are set to pose great challenges to their Chinese counterparts.
Conclusions
We should make better use of WTO agriculture rules. To take advantages of the comparative advantage and to adjust the trade management measure of agricultural products import and export. We believe, under the leadership of the government, the agriculture department is sure to overcome the side effect and as a result, get a further development.
