Over thousand liver transplants performed at a liver transplant center in China

Recently the Liver Transplantation Center of the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine announced the successful performance of 1021 liver transplants by October 17, 2011. At a gathering celebrating this event, experts from the USA and China highly appreciated this achievement made by the center headed by Professor Shu-Sen Zheng. The noted guests at the gathering included Sheung Tat Fan from Queen Mary Hospital, University of Hong Kong, Ronald W. Busuttil from the Pfleger Liver Institute at UCLA, USA and others. The center once issued the Hangzhou criteria on the basis of the Milan criteria. Briefly, the Hangzhou criteria include: 1) no macrovascular invasion; 2) either a total tumor diameter <8 cm, or a total tumor diameter >8 cm plus histopathological gradeior II and alpha-fetoprotein level <400 ng/mL.
