What Makes a Good Teacher怎样做个好老师

OnJune1，1988，IbegananewcareerasateacherasanassociateprofessorattheAsianInstituteofManagement.Ihadjustcompletedmorethanadecadeofworkwithaleadingcommercialbankwheremylaststintwasincorporateplanningaftermanyyearsinthehumanresourcemanagementdepartment.

1988年6月1日，我开始新的职业生涯，成为了亚洲管理学院的一名副教授。在此之前，我在一家知名商业银行工作了十多年——在人力资源管理部门就职多年之后，最后的一份职务是企业规划。

在亚洲管理学院，我们采用案例法，让学生能够观察和分析商业和行业中的现实情况。“因为智慧无法言传”这句流行语体现出案例教学法中的学习过程。

Casestudiesarestoriesonthelifeofcorporationsandorganizations：howtheywereorganized，theirfledglingyears，theirgrowthandevolution，andhowtheydealtwithchallenges.ToquoteClydeFreemanHerreid，“Storiescaptureourattention，entertainus，stirouremotions，andexpandourvisions.Preachersusethemformoralpersuasion，comedianstotickleourfunnybone，andteachersasexemplarsofgoodpractice.”Casemethodprofessorsmustwaitandlistenpatientlyastheirstudentsexpresstheirviewsonhowthedecisionmakersinthecasestudiestackledthechallengesfacedbytheirorganizations.Theymustresisttheurgetopredominatetheclassdiscussion，mindfulthateveryminutethattheytakeupdeniesthesameamountoftimethatcouldhavebeengiventoastudentsharingwhathehasanalyzedandlearnedfromthecasestudy.

多年后，我结束了为期两年的学术休假，在此期间我全职担任公司高管。回来之后，我采用了一种新颖的评分方法。我告诉学生们：我会根据你们最好的表现来给你们打分。通过这种方式，我想我成功地激励了他们每次都全力以赴：无论是在发言、测验和考试中，还是在课题项目中。

最后，课堂是终身学习世界的缩影。在高管教育中，我作为教师的创造力和适应力受到了最严峻的考验。学员们希望了解最新的知识和技能，也非常重视教授在其专业领域内的“实战故事”。与银行业、制药业、电信业和快餐业的创新企业客户合作，使我能够紧跟前沿实践。

在贝尼尼奥·阿基诺三世总统执政期间，我休职前往政府部门工作，全身心地投入学习如何应对媒体和公众沟通的挑战。作为新闻秘书，我与记者们分享了背景和视角对于理解他们所报道事件的重要性。后来，其中一位记者告诉我，当她受邀谈论新闻写作时，她向她的新闻专业学生听众转述了这一经验之谈。

学术休假使我能有三个时段在三个政府岗位上总共工作了十年，还在企业工作了两年。其实，在公共服务和商界中，能够学到知识的机会随时都有——我们每个人都要乐于接纳终身学习的使命。

1在菲律宾，每年的9月5日（该国教师节）至10月5日（世界教师日）是教师月。在此期间，全国各地举办多项活动，以表达对教师的敬意。
