Step gently, lest you tread upon the springs!” Such was the tender counsel of poet Kong Fu to his companions during their visits to Jinan.

Wandering through Jinan, one must indeed proceed with a light step. Not merely to avoid inadvertently stepping on the springs that scatter the city like pearls, but also because, in the tranquility, one can sense a pure and limpid breath emanating from the distant Chengzi Cliffs, from the ancient stanzas of “Dadong” in the Book of Songs, from the autumnal scenery of the Que and Hua Mountains, and even from the modern-day internet-renowned landmark, Chaoran Pavilion.

Here lies Jinan, the city of springs that is exquisitely poised. There are no clamorous footfalls, nor any antiquated customs. What it holds is a landscape and culture that have been nurtured by millennia of enchantment; it is the refined legacy left by esteemed scholars amidst the bamboo groves and slender willows, within the breezy eaves and courtyards.

The elegance of Jinan resides not only in its people but also in their writings; the character of a city is molded by those who dwell within its bounds, while its very essence is unveiled through the written word.

Li Qingzhao, an illustrious female poet, imbued the city’s cultural fabric with her exquisite lyrical and poetic quality, infusing it with the “wisdom of nature” and a “language both novel and profound.”

Xin Qiji, a master of both the literary and martial arts, crafted another facet of the city’s identity, one that is both robust and tender. If Xin Qiji stands as one of the rare figures in Chinese history who could wield both the pen and the sword, then Jinan, his birthplace, is the city where grace and heroics coalesce.

Li Bai, Du Fu, Su Shi, Su Zhe, Zeng Gong, Yuan Haowen, Zhao Mengfu, Wang Shizhen, and other luminaries of various eras traveled or worked here. Zhang Yanghao, Yu Shenxing, Li Panlong, and others were born in Jinan. Throughout the ages, celebrated figures have extolled the city’s scenic beauty and ambiance, with poets even expressing the longing to “rest amidst lotus blossoms in a small boat, with the heart to forever be a resident of Jinan.”

Last but not to be overlooked is Lao She,xGYw8BtLOu7fNiaRkxtBXJd/ubW0uQpzhNFIDS24iKE= who considered Jinan his “second home.” In his work “Winter in Jinan,” with the warmest strokes, he indelibly etched the name “Jinan” into the hearts and minds of generations of Chinese people.

Jinan, a city that is a poem in itself, is caressed by the tender zephyrs of a millennium past, murmuring through the tresses of Li Qingzhao, brushing against the steed of Xin Qiji, swirling around the ornate eaves of the Baixue Pavilion, soaring over the waves of the Baotu Spring, and tenderly kissing our visages. In this metropolis, where the pace is neither hurried nor sluggish, where the mood is neither fraught with anxiety nor marked by apathy—where all is in harmonious balance—the moment is ripe for a dance with the breeze, a rhythmic drumming, and a melodic chant—for life, for vocation, for aspirations, all is in perfect accord!

The city boasts perfectly balanced humanity, rich heritage, and a promising future. Jinan, steeped in profound deposits of history and civilization, has finally awaited your arrival. Alongside countless exceptional minds, let us converge in the City of Springs and stride forward together!
