You never know what you'll find when you gothrift store shopping. Sometimes, you end up findingexactly what you need. That's why, on her break fromcollege, Jordyn Vermont asked her mom to go thriftstore shopping with her. At a Goodwill store in theSt. Louis area, she found an almost 20yearoldcamera. As an amateur photographer, sheknew this is a fantastic find.
It wasn't until Jordyn got home, however, that she realized just how amazing itwas that she found this camera in particular. A memory card was still inside of it, and itcontained lots of family photos. The memory card did contain photos of a family that weretaken in 2009. Without hesitating, Jordyn and her mom, Sharon, took action to find thefamily in the photos.
To locate the family, Sharon posted their find online. Meanwhile, around the sametime, the owner of the photos ran into a friend she hadn't seen in a decade. Just two dayslater, that very friend shared Sharon's post with Pat Schopp, asking if that's her family.Astonishingly, the owner is Pat Schopp. In 2001, she and her husband, Phil, bought thecamera. They chose to donate it to Goodwill in November, 2023 when they found it whilecleaning their basement.
Jordyn could have easily thrown away the memory card that came with her Goodwillcamera, but that was not something she could have even considered.“ I don't know. I feellike if I had a camera there that had my family photos, I would want that back,” Jordynsaid.“ There were family photos on the memory card. I didn't know if some of the people inthe photos weren't around anymore,” Jordyn said.
Sharon felt the same way. Her own mom passed away three years ago, so she understandsdeeply what it would mean to her if someone found old photos of them together. Itturned out that Pat had lost loved ones recently.“ My dad has been gone for five years,” Patsays.“ Then my aunt passed away two years ago.” Needless to say, Pat is grateful for Jordynand Sharon's kindness.
