I don't think I can recall a time when I wasn't aware of the beauty of the ocean. Growing up in Australia, I had the good fortune of having the sea at my side. The first time I went to Halfmoon Bay, I suddenly had the feeling of not being able to feel the ground with my feet anymore.

For my 10th birthday, my sister and I were taken out to the Great Barrier Reef (大堡礁).There were fish in different colors, caves and layers of coral. They made such an impression on me. When I learned that only 1 percent of Australia's Coral Sea was protected, I was shocked. Australian marine (海洋的)life is particularly important because the reefs have more marine species than any other country on earth. But sadly, only 45% of the world's reefs are considered healthy.

This statistic is depressing, so it's important for us to do everything to protect them. The hope that the Coral Sea remains a complete ecosystem has led me to take action. I've become involved with the Protect Our Coral Sea activity, which aims to create the largest marine park in the world. It would serve as a place where the ocean's species will all have a safe place forever.

Together, Angus and I created a little video and we hope it will inspire people to be part of the movement. Angus also shares many beautiful childhood memories of the ocean as a young boy, who grew up sailing, admiring the beauty of the ocean, and trying to find the secrets of ocean species.

24. What can we learn about the author from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 1?

A. He seldom went surfing at the sea.B. He never went back to his hometown.

C. He forgot his experiences about the ocean.D. He had a wonderful impression of Halfmoon Bay.

25. What is Australian marine life like according to Paragraph 2?

A. It may be faced with danger.B. It depends on reefs for living.

C. It is escaping from the Coral Sea gradually.D. It is protected better than that in other oceans.

26. What's the purpose of the Protect Our Coral Sea activity?

A. To contribute to a complete ecosystem.

B. To set up a large nature reserve for reefs.

C. To prevent more marine species being endangered.

D. To raise more teenagers' environmental awareness.

27. Why do Angus and the author create a little video?

A. To urge people to take action to protect the marine species.

B. To bring back to people their memory of ocean species.

C. To share their childhood experiences about the ocean.

D. To inspire people to explore the secret of the ocean.

As is commonly known, Antarctica is an icy continent with extreme environment. However, a new study provides evidence that the area had a rainforest in the past.

The researchers collected a piece of Earth sediment (沉積物)from under the seafloor off the coast of Antarctica. In the sediment, they discovered forest material that was estimated (估计)to be about 90 million years old. At that period, dinosaurs were the ruler animals of the land.

Johann Klages, a German geologist, was the lead writer of a study on the findings, published in the journal Nature. He said the sediment was collected from a depth of about 30 meters below the ocean floor. Klages said an examination showed that the material didn't form in the ocean.

The researchers estimate that the area—about 900 kilometers from the South Pole—had average yearly temperatures of about 12℃to 13℃. The soil included fine dirt particles and hard clay, as well as substances linked to at least 65 different kinds of plants, the study found. Although no animal remains were found, Klages said there were likely dinosaurs, flying reptiles and many insects in the environment.

The research represents new evidence of the major climate changes Earth experienced in the past—and is currently undergoing today. The soil in the sediment dates back to the planet's warmest period of the past 140 million years, with sea level about 170 meters higher than today. The researchers said that therainforest environment in Antarctica was especially surprising because each year, the area experiences a four-month polar night when there is no sunlight to fuel plant life. Klages said no ice sheets were present during the time, but seasonal snowfall was likely.

28. What can we learn about the sediment collected?

A. It formed before the age of dinosaurs.B. It was found on the Antarctica land.

C. Ancient forest material was found init.D. Some dinosaur remains were found in it.

29. How did the researchers reach their findings?

A. By analyzing the Earth sediment.B. By exploring ice in Antarctica.

C. By collecting data on climate.D. By researching special plants.

30. What can we learn about Antarctica from the last paragraph?

A. It was much colder 140 million years ago.

B. Its natural environment has changed greatly.

C. Seasonal snowfall made the forest disappear.

D. Polar nights in it are getting shorter than before.

31. What does the text mainly tell us about Antarctica?

A. Rainforest disappeared from it

B. It had a different history of climate.

C. Researchers studied a piece of Earth sediment of it.

D. It had an extreme environment containing ice and snow.

In Singapore, buses have been given the green light to find new ways to reduce emissions (排放)and improve the air quality of their services.

Last month, GWS Living Art, a company specializing in urban green structures installed (安装)green roofs on 10 public buses. While a bus might not seem like the typical location for a green roof, the installation could provide environmental and economic benefits. According to research by Michigan State University, green roofs are great at reducing polluting emissions, providing space for nature and cooling cities through the water that evaporates (蒸發)from their leaves and by shading surfaces that would otherwise absorb heat.

“While the powerful effect of green plants on buildings has been well documented, much less is known about the effects of them on moving vehicles,”said Tan Chun Liang, a research fellow at National University of Singapore who advises the “Garden on the Move”bus campaign. This bus campaign is part of a three-month study to test whether green plants can help lower the temperature inside the buses and reduce the amount of fuel needed to power the air-conditioning. Liang hopes the research will provide a possible solution for cities to fight against global warming and the Urban Heat Island (UHI)effect—when a city experiences much warmer temperatures than nearby rural areas, due to the heat produced and absorbed by industry, traffic and building materials.

To make Singapore a “Garden City”, the government has joined this bus campaign with other green projects such as the Green Mark Scheme which aims for 80% of buildings to be green by 2030 and Gardens by the Bay, an eco-friendly garden featuring solar-powered “supertrees”and over 1.5 million plants.

32. Why were green roofs installed on 10 public buses in Singapore?

A. To provide more space for plants to live in.

B. To increase the diversity of species in Singapore.

C. To attract more people to use public transportation.

D. To test green plants' environmental and economic benefits.

33. How can green plants lower the temperature in cities?

A. By cleaning the air.B. By reflecting sunlight.

C. By absorbing greenhouse gases.D. By providing water and shade.

34. How many projects are mentioned to make Singapore a “Garden City”?

A. 2.B. 3,C. 4.D. 5.

35. What can be the best title for the text?

A. Green Campaigns in SingaporeB. An Eco-Friendly Garden
