英語中提起“大”字，主要有四个单词：big， large， great， huge，都是形容词，在句中作定语和表语。它们的内涵各异，搭配不同，切勿乱用。
一、 big是表“大”意最广的形容词，多指体积、重量，口语中较常用。如：
1. Chen Hong works in a big factory.
陈红在一家大厂工作。
2. There is a big table in the office.
办公室里有一张大桌子。
二、large侧重于宽度、数量之大，比较正式，不常用来指人。表示物时，可与big通用。如：
1. China is one of the largest countries in the world.
中国是世界上最大的国家之一。
2.A large number of players are playing football on the playground.
许多运动员在操场上踢足球。
三、great侧重于指抽象的东西，指具体东西时，常带有较强的感情色彩。如：
1.After a while there was a great noise.
过一会儿那儿发出巨大的声响。
2.China is a great country.
中国是一个伟大的国家。
四、huge等于very big或very large，有“特别大”的意思。如：
1.The sun is a huge fire ball.
太阳是一个巨大的火球。
2.It is made of 2，300，000 huge stones.
它是用230万块巨石砌成的。
