用in the way还是on the way

In the way和on the way是极为常见的两个短语，如何灵活运用在具体的语境中呢？

1.in the way

这个短语常指“在道上”，有妨碍、阻拦的意思。如：

1）She can’t do her dance because the table is in the way.Can you help me move it？

桌子挡住了路，她不能跳舞了。你能帮忙移开吗？

2）You just arranged matters so that no one was in the way.

你把一切都安排好了，这样就不会有人挡道了。

3）I knew what got in the way of success,and I planned for it.

我知道通往成功的道路上会遇到什么，我也计划好了。

2.on the way

该短语的常用意思是“在路上”，指去某个地方的路上。其后可以用介词to接地点名词表示目的地。特别要注意的是，如果目的地是副词，不能用to。如：

1）I was on my way to Peter’s house when I met him in the street.

当我在街上遇见他的时候，我正在去彼得家的路上。

2）On the way home I thought about these two men and their different approaches to being fired.（home为副词，前面不能用介词to）

在回家的路上，我对这两个人以及他们对待被解雇这件事的态度进行了思考。

3.on the way to+动名词/动词

用来表示“在进行中”，常用作动词be的表语，后接介词to+动名词，或者介词to+动词作名词。如：

1）We’re well on the way to completing a project on this.

我们正在完成这个项目。

2）Brazil is on the way to becoming one of the world’s strongest economies.

巴西正在成为世界上最强大的经济体之一。

3）Once being in danger of life,he would hit on the way to escape.

一旦到了有生命危险的关键时刻，他总能想出逃脱的方法。
