There is no doubt that Abraham Lincoln has achieved great success because he is admired as one of the greatest American presidents. What is his way to success? A survey of his career reveals that his success can be attributed to three factors—the aspiration, determination and diligence.
First of all, when he was young, Lincoln had the strong aspiration for abolishing slavery in the South and brought America a bright future. In the second half of 19th century, the slavery prevented America from further development. Inspired by his dream of making America strong, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which started the prelude to freeing salves.
Secondly, the reason why Lincoln achieved the final success of abolishing slavery and winning the Civil War is that he showed great determination. He dared to do what he thought was right at a time when his belief were unpopular with many people. When Lincoln became the president, some of the South threatened to withdraw from the United States to maintain the slavery. Lincoln insisted that no state have the right to secede, and then the Civil War broke out. Owing to Lincolns great leadership, the northern states were victorious and the union was preserved.
Furthermore, Lincolns success first as a lawyer, and then as a president owes much to his diligence. Lincoln is the model of the self-made person—the one who, with neither money nor family influence, fights his way to the top. Lincoln was born of a poor family, and had little opportunity for education. He had to do hard manual labor through the day so that his early study was done alone at night by the night of a fireplace. Regardless of numerous difficulties, he succeeded in becoming a lawyer and eventually President of the United States.
To sum up, it is Lincolns great aspiration, determination and diligence that made him a successful figure. Everyone who wants to achieve success can learn a lot from his life experience.
