为画家设计其工作室兼住所时，设计团队提出一个不一样的取向：一个心理空间示意图。他们并没有支配设计的过程，转而询问客户他真正想要甚么，换言之，是采用了心理分析的手法。“留云草堂”很大部分都是按照客户的意愿而兴建，小至在墙上放哪幅画作，大至户外庭园设计，都由画家决定。犹如中国传统水墨画的留白一样，那祥和的白色结构，成为让屋主表达自我的画布。

When designing the artist’s studio-cum-residence,the team proposed an unconventional approach— a psychological space diagram. Instead of dictating the design process, architects turned to their client to ask what he truly wants, literally, through psychoanalysis. A great portion of the house is built accordingly to the client’s desire, from decision as minor as which painting to put on the wall to more permanent ones such as the landscaping of the outdoor garden. Like the blank space in traditional Chinese painting, the serenely white structure became a canvas for the client to express himself.
