Theory Building Orientation of China’s Diplomacy as a Major Country in the World

YangJiemian

Abstract: It is a long and complicated systematic project to build diplomatic theory with Chinese characteristics. To identify the direction of building the theory in the future, we should promote Chinese traditional culture, develop Chinese maxism, and summerize China’s diplomatic practice, particularly Chinese diplomatic trends, communication, convergence and conflicts between China and foreign countries’ diplomatic theory and thoughts. We should boost theoretical construction of Chinese diplomacy in the areas of conditions, ideology, strategy and policy. Consensus on construction’s direction and emphasis should be achieved in Chinese political and academic circles. The joint reseach could accelerate China’s diplomatic leap from perceptual to rational knowledge. In this way, the theory could guide China’s diplomacy and play a leading role in the world.

The Dilemma of Sino-Japanese Security Relations and China’s Response

MengXiaoxu

Abstract: Security relations is not only an important part of Sino-Japanese relations, but also a key factor that affects and restricts the overall improvement and development of Sino-Japanese relations. Japan’s nationalization of the Diaoyu Islands has intensified territorial disputes and damaged security mutual trust between China and Japan. The evolution of the security relationship between China and Japan is clearly beyond the scope of the Diaoyu Islands Dispute. It has profound reasons. In the near future, challenges will outweigh opportunities. China should take measures to strengthen bilateral political and security mutual trust, push Japan to adjust its policy, ameliorate relations with neighboring countries and improve mutual understanding among the people of the two countries.

Major Countries’ Overall National Interests: A Theoretical Analysis

SongWei

Abstract: Sovereign states have overall national interests, which can be defined as the highest interests owned by all social classes in certain period. The definition of overall national interest constitutes the main basis of states’ foreign strategy, and also the main basis of measuring the importance of concrete national interests in security, economic and cultural fields. The article defines overall national interest from the position of great power in the international system. There are two kinds of global great powers: hegemons and ordinary global powers. The overall national interest of the hegemon is to consolidate and promote its hegemonic power status and hegemonic institutional status, while ordinary global power has different overall national interests in the short and long term. Peaceful rise and moderate change of the international institutional system after incorporation should be an appropriate path for the rise of global great powers and peaceful transition of hegemonic status.

SunXihuiandLvHong

Abstract: China and the US have become two relatively balanced polars in the Asia-Pacific Region. But two countries have quite different ideas about playing leading roles in the region. There is not much consensus on dual leadership in the region. The contrast of China and the US’ power and power distribution in the region have great significance for analyzing FTA strategies of China and the US. The two countries have their own special targets in promoting FTA construction, which are complementary instead of competitive. The Trump administration has adjusted FTA policies in the region made by the Obama administration, which makes the US FTA strategy presents some new characteristics in the Asia-Pacific. The Trump administration’s Asia Pacific policy is still perfecting, and there are many possibilities of future development. China needs to keep an eye on them and continues to implement its own FTA strategy in the region.
