The Internet is full of false information. It is important for us all to avoid us being fooled by such information. Here are three examples of Internet hoaxes.
On his website, a man by the name of Tony has asked for gifts of money to save the life of a pretty rabbit Toby that he rescued from under his house. A cat must have attacked the rabbit, the man claimed, so he took it in. He gave Toby loving care and nursed him back to health. There is a very cruel point, however. If the greedy man doesnt receive enough money, he will eat poor little Toby. (Dont worry, though. Remember, its just a hoax!)
While the streets of New Orleans, the USA, were still flooded after a terrible hurricane, a frightening e-mail was sent around the Internet. It included a photograph of a large crocodile over five meters long. According to the message, it had been swimming around the flooded city eating people. It was later discovered that the photograph of the crocodile was of one photograph that was caught in the Congo (刚果) years before.
The following e-mail hoax takes in many people. It claims that a large British company will pay you to send e-mail to as many people as possible. For every person that you send the e-mail to, it promises you will receive $5; for every person that you send it to that sends it to someone else, youll get $3; and for every third person that receives it, youll be paid $1. To make it even more believable, the sender says that at first he thought it was a hoax, but the company soon sent him $800.

Jaden and Noah were planning to redecorate their bedroom. The brothers were quite excited and ready to make changes, but mostly, they were eager to start painting.
“Its going to look so awesome with green walls,” said Jaden.
“What? Who said anything about green walls?” Noah argued. “I was planning to paint our room red.”
“Red will look horrible, and besides, green is a much better color,” Jaden replied.
The boys smiles disappeared, and frowns started to become visible.
“Okay, lets think about this, Im sure we can decide on a color together,” said Noah.
“Hey, I have an idea that might be useful. Our art teacher showed us how to use a color wheel, which displays all of the colors of the rainbow. All of the colors are arranged in a circle, and the color wheel shows how new colors are made from mixing certain main colors together. Lets look at a color wheel and see what we can come up with,” Jaden suggested.
Jaden pulled out a book about art that included a color wheel.
“How is that going to help us?” Noah asked.
“Well, maybe well find another color we both like,” Jaden answered.
Jaden opened the book to a page with a color wheel on it, and the boys began to study it. They saw that red and green are on opposite sides of the color wheel, which means they are very different from one another. Sometimes colors that are not alike work well together, but they can also be so different that they dont work well together.
“Hey, these colors look good together,” said Jaden. He pointed to a golden color and a green color. The colors were side by side on the color wheel, but they were not similar.
Noah agreed. “But I really do like red,” he added.
“Well, I like blue as much as I like green. What would happen if we mixed blue and red?” Jaden asked.
The boys looked at the color wheel. The color in between red and blue on the wheel was purple. They looked at each other and started to grin (咧嘴笑).
“I think we might have solved our problem,” said Jaden.
“I think youre right,” said Noah.
36. The story is mostly about two brothers who ______.
A. cannot get along
B. discuss a problem and work it out
C. cannot make a decision
D. decide to paint a bedroom two colors
37. Which word means the opposite of the word eager in Paragraph 1?

A good joke can be the hardest thing to understand when studying a foreign language.
Theres more to learn understanding a joke in a foreign language than understanding vocabulary and grammar.
Being able to understand local jokes is often seen as an ice-breaker for a language learner who wants to build friendships with native speakers.
“I always felt that humor was a ceiling that I could never break through,” said Hannah Ashley, who once studied Spanish in Madrid. “I could never speak to people on the same level as I would speak to a native English speaker. I almost came across as quite a boring person because all I could talk about was facts.”
In fact, most of the time, jokes are only funny for people who share a cultural background or understand humor in the same way.
Chinese-American comedian Joe Wong (Huang Xi) found this out first-hand. He had achieved great success in the US, but when he returned to China in 2008 for his first live show in Beijing, he discovered that his humor didnt translate. People didnt think his Chinese jokes were as funny as his English ones.
In Australia, many foreigners find understanding jokes about sports to be the biggest headache. “The hardest jokes are related to rugby (橄欖球) because I know nothing about rugby,” said Melody Cao, who was once a student in Australia. “When I heard jokes I didnt get, I just laughed along.”
In the other two major English-speaking countries, the sense of humor is also different. British jokes tend to be more subtle (不易察觉) and dark, while American jokes are direct with their meanings, a bit like Americans themselves.
41. What does the writer mean by using the underlined sentence?
A. You need to learn about a culture to understand its jokes.
B. Local jokes can help you to understand the local culture better.
C. Making jokes can help you form friendships with native speakers.
D. Understanding jokes requires excellence in vocabulary and grammar.
42. What can we learn about Hannah Ashley?
A. She feels confident in using Spanish.
B. She believes that its better to tell the facts than jokes.
C. She thinks that Spanish people do not have much of a sense of humor.
D. Not being able to understand their humor makes her seem boring to Spanish people.
43. Whats the writers purpose of using Joe Wong as an example?
A. To prove that it can be difficult to translate jokes.
B. To show that there are cultural differences in humor.
C. To show that your language ability influences your sense of humor.
D. To suggest that bilingual people (双语者) have no problems making people laugh.
44. What are American jokes like?
A. Ironic. B. Subtle. C. Dark. D. Direct.
45. What can we learn from the article?
A. Americans might not be able to enjoy British jokes.
B. British peoples dark jokes often make people uncomfortable.
C. English native speakers can all understand English jokes easily.
D. Jokes about sports are the most difficult ones for foreign people.

B.任务型阅读。(共10小题,每小题1分,计10分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容完成表格中所缺信息,每空一词。
Everyone is born with the ability to learn. But whether or not you can do this well depends on your learning habits. Research shows that successful learners have some good habits in common.
Creating an interest in what they learn
Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. Good learners often connect what they need to learn with something they are interested in. For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programs in English. This way they will not get bored.
Practicing and learning from mistakes
Good learners think about what they are good at and what they need to practice more. Remember: “use it or lose it”! Even if you learn something well, you will forget it unless you use it. Practice makes perfect. Good learners are also not afraid of making mistakes. Alexander Graham Bell did not invent the telephone overnight. He succeeded by trying many times and learning from his mistakes.
Developing their study skills
It is not enough to just study hard. You have to know how to study. Good learners find out the best ways to learn well. For example, they may take notes by writing down key words or by drawing mind maps. Good learners also look for ways to review what they have learned. They may do this by reading their notes every day or by explaining the information to another student.
Asking questions
Good learners often ask questions during or after class. They even ask each other and try to find out the answers. Knowledge comes from questioning.
Learning is a life-long journey because every day brings something new. Everything that you learn becomes a part of you and changes you, so learn wisely and learn well.

Dr. Livesey was not at home. He was dining with Squire (乡绅) Trelawney, so we rode on to the Hall, where the squire lived. The two men were sitting in a great library next to a bright fire.
The officer told the story. The two men listened with surprise and interest. The officer then left. I gave the papers to the doctor and they asked me to stay and eat something after my adventures.
“Have you heard of Flint?” Dr. Livesey asked the squire.
“Yes, I have!” the squire replied. “He was one of the most dangerous pirates (海盗) that ever sailed the seas. He only cared about money and everyone was afraid of him. Nobody knows where he buried his treasure.”
“Maybe these papers give a clue,” said the doctor, And we opened the captains papers. Inside there was a detailed map. It showed an island, about nine miles long and five wide. It had two good natural harbours and a hill in the centre, marked Spy-glass Hill. There were three crosses in red, two in the northern part and one in the south-west. Beside the last cross were the words: Most of treasure here.
On the back of the map was this information.
The treasure is by a tall tree. Spy-glass Hill is behind you to the north, Skeleton Island is below you to the south-east. The silver is in the north-east and the guns are in the north-west.
John Flint
Both the squire and Dr. Livesey were very excited.
“Livesey,” said the squire, “Tomorrow Ill go to Bristol. In ten days well have the best ship and crew (船員) in England. Hawkins will come as the cabin-boy. You, Livesey, will be the ships doctor. I can be the captain. We will have a good journey, and easily find the treasure. Then well have enough money to live happily ever after.
