It was my first time in the US. I think there is no other country that I have heard so many things about before I visited it. Burgers, big cars, fat people, good wine and fantastic cities. For sure the real experience was quite different. Although you can find all these things there, you will also find many other things to discover.
In Los Angeles, I stayed at a place where they even produced home-made videos. I always thought in Hollywood only movies with lots of money are produced. But in this place, even parts of the living room were functioned (運作) into a scene. But anyway, this shows what you imagined about a place before arriving might be totally wrong. Now I started to understand the city is not only the place where the big movies are made, its also where people are crazy about movies, and always try to start a production even if they dont have lots of money. People there just really love movies, they are motivated (有积极性的) to give their ideas a try and at least open up a channel (频道) online with their home-made stories.
Of course, there are many other interesting places in Los Angeles. As I stayed only a few days, it was not enough time to see all. But I advise you to have two apps (应用程序) on your smart phone for traveling in America. First is Yelp to find the closest and best restaurant or coffee place and the other Uber because especially in Los Angeles, you wont find taxis and everything is so far. You can also drive but its wise to park your car close to a subway station and go to Hollywood by subway.

For many Chinese movie lovers, the name of Stephen Chow alone is enough to get them to the cinema for The Mermaid (《美人魚》).
Most mermaid movies tell the story of love between humans and mermaids, and this one is no exception. But as the director, writer and producer of this film, Chow adds the idea of environmental protection into the story. As Chows other films, The Mermaid uses its fairy-tale ways to teach us life lessons, and its full of lots of Chows special comedic style in the movie.
Chow said that The Mermaid shows his dream love story. In the movie, when the rich boss Liu Xuan dropped from the sky to save the mermaid Shanshan, the scene is sure to become classics in the hearts of Chows fans. “My beloved one should be a hero. Some day, he will come to marry me, arriving on rainbow clouds,” said the heroine in another Chows film, A Chinese Odyssey (《大话西游》). That movie has a sad ending which disappointed many movie lovers. Some people said that The Mermaid was Chows compensate (补偿) to them.
While Chows fans may feel satisfied by his latest outing, the film failed to win over some critics (评论家). “The Mermaid is a mix of repeated jokes, poor special effects and an old-fashioned, Cinderella-style love story. It does make people laugh, but it is also embarrassing (难堪的).”
