Hudong Heavy Machinery makes an ecocombination blow

With official implementation of Tier III emission rules and new ship energy efficiency design index (EEDI),there are even higher requirements for energy saving and emission reduction of marine low-speed engine. Ships develop towards greener and more environmentfriendly direction, marine machine manufacturers’ exploration and Ramp;D have been working well for years in addition to shipowner, designer and builder.
On November 8, Hudong Heavy Machinery Co.,Ltd(HHM) along with Shanghai CSSC Mitsui Diesel Engine Co .,Ltd, CSSC Power Research Institute Co.,Ltd, CSSC Marine Power Technology Service Co.,Ltd, CSSC Wartsila Engine (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd and Shanghai Hulin Heavy Industry Co.,Ltd successfully staged new product and new technology promotion meeting in Shanghai Lingang Industrial Park. The event exhibited seven eco-friendly new products and new technologies-- dual-fuel engine, FGSS, SCR,desulfurization unit, EGR, WHR and power system integration.
At present, marine dual-fuel engines synchronously using natural gas and heavy oil as fuel mainly include WinGD’s DF and MAN”s MEGI. Dual-fuel engine in gas model can effectively reduce SOx and NOx and particle emissions, especially WinGD’s DF engine in gas model can directly meet Tier III emission requirements.HHM has patent licensing of two patent licensers MDT and WinGD, WinGD’s first 7RT-flex50DF engine is under trial run delivery, MAN’s first 6S50ME-GI engine will undergo bench test early in 2018.
To support the production of dualfuel engine, HHM completed independent design, construction and manufacture of FGSS and put it into operation during the dual-fuel engine trial run at workshop. The system can synchronously meet MEGI (high voltage) and DF (low voltage)engine gas supply demand, and the entire design scheme is completely the same as marine system. The system design passed DNV GL’s FMEA failure analysis, and obtained its AIP certificate. HHM has design and supply capacity of marine gas supply system.
SCR (selective catalytic reducer)is one of the most reliable NOx handling schemes. Its essential principle is by injecting urea solution into diesel engine waste gas, urea translated into ammonia in high temperature, ammonia and NOx reduction generates water and nitrogen.Hudong Heavy Machinery started SCR technology research in 2012, worked with WinGD and MAN to develop SCR. At the beginning of 2015, HHM successfully delivered world first WinGD engine with SCR, and completed MAN 6550MEC engine bench test with SCR. HHM’s SCR obtained approval of WinGD and MAN and successfully completed type approval test of seven major classification societies.
EGR (exhaust gas recirculation)technology enables marine low-speed NOx to meet Tier III requirements;desulfurization unit can effectively reduce SOx content in exhaust emissions; exhaust heat utilization and power integration package can effectively improve effective thermal efficiency of marine low-speed engine. To date, HHM has completed serial Ramp;D of the above new products and technologies, and most products have acquired orders.
HHM has actively promoted corporate transformation and upgrade by deepening reform, it has not achieved“1+6” operation model, that is, one operation management and control center and six business groups (Ramp;D, lowspeed engine, medium-high speed engine, complete equipment, key and heavy pieces, service). Shanghai CSSC Mitsui is a subsidiary of HHM and also the management subject of low-speed engine business group, shouldering the task of HHM low-speed engine business development.
