高考英语完形填空题是学生较难把握的常见题型。它其实是一种高难度的障碍性阅读理解题,检测的是学生结合上下文的语境对英语语篇的整体感知能力、分析判断能力、逻辑推理能力和连贯性思维能力,同时也客观地考查学生的语言水平和实际综合运用语言的能力。

毫无疑问,要做好完形填空题,学生首先得具备较强的快速阅读和对语篇的整体理解能力,能够在特定的语境中根据上下文线索统揽全局,瞻前顾后,顺藤摸瓜,做出正确的判断和最佳的选择。此外,学生还要掌握牢固的语言基础知识,尤其是词汇的掌握程度(一词一义,一词多义,固定搭配,词汇辨析等),须得积极调遣个人所具备的各方面常识(包括话题及功能等方面的文化背景知识和基本的生活常识等)以及正确把握行文逻辑、合理进行逻辑推理、隐含信息捕捉、作者态度揣摩和语篇情感体悟等与语言运用相关的经验来克服英语完形填空解题时的种种障碍,从而还原语篇,终而完“形”更完“意”。

一、C—Cultural background/Common sense 运用文化常识

高考英语完形填空中交织渗透着各类相关的文化背景、科学知识和生活常识。高中生已经具备了一定的跨文化交际意识和判断能力,做题时,若积极调动自己的跨文化背景、社会知识和科普常识,便可大大简化复杂的分析与判断过程,顺理成章地选出正确的答案。如:

【例1】(2016全国卷Ⅲ)Just before September,Miller was struck by a car and lost his right arm.I went to see him after he came back from 44.He looked very 45,but he didn’t cry.

【解析】C;A。Miller遭遇车祸失去了右臂。根据常识可知,我去看望Miller应是在他出院之后,那时他脸色苍白,但(坚强的)他没有哭。

二、L—Logical relationship 理清逻辑文脉

高考完形填空所选短文一般是故事性较强的记叙文或夹叙夹议的文体,间或也有说明文或议论文。选文题材广泛,结构严谨,层次分明,行文逻辑性强。

那如何梳理好上下文的逻辑关系,补全残缺的语境呢?关键在于要具备由一个或几个已知的判断前提,推导出未知的结论的逻辑思维能力。更重要的是要熟知那些体现文章起承转合、上下连贯的逻辑关联词。常见的表示逻辑关系的连接词有:and,not only...but also...,neither...nor...,that is to say,also,then,even,still,besides,in addition,furthermore,what’s more等表示并列或递进关系;but,yet,however,on the contrary,on the other hand,although,even if,nevertheless,despite,in spite of,regardless of,anyway,anyhow等表示转折或让步关系;because,for,so that,such...that...,in order that...,due to,thanks to,in response to,considering that等表示因果关系;if,only if,unless,once,as soon as,in case等表示条件关系;as...as...,not as/so...as...,than,by contrast,while等表示比较或对比关系。如:

高考完形填空虽然注重考查语境理解、语篇衔接,但同时也会涉及一些词组、短语、句型、惯用法等固定搭配知识。掌握丰富的英语习语、句型和惯用法表达,无疑多拥有了一个破解完形填空的秘密武器。如:

【解析】B;A。固定词组“hunt for”表示“寻找,追寻”,符合语境含义。短语“an ocean floor/bed”,指“海床,洋底”。此处意为“数百万年前,沙漠还是洋底”。

四、A—Attitude 领悟情感态度

高考英语完形填空,尤其是记叙文类,注重对作者或文章人物的情感态度等方面的考查,因此解答此类题目时,我们要设身处地,融入情节,或喜或悲,或恼或忧,或怒或悟,把握好人物的情感态度,推测文章主题和作者写作意图,统筹考虑,合情合理地确定相关选项。如:

【例1】(2016全国卷Ⅰ)One thing is for certain—Larry went above and beyond the call of duty by getting so close to the burning vehicle! His 60 most likely saved the woman’s life.

五、R—Repetition 明察语义复现

词汇复现是高考英语完形填空中运用较多的一种测试命题手段。某一词汇以原词、派生词、同义词、近义词、反义词、概括词、注释词等形式出现在语篇中,使语篇中的句子连贯,意义统一完整。如果判断出一个未知设空与上下文的那些已知词汇有复现关系,则正确答案唾手可得。如:

【例1】(2016四川卷)“Nice try,Aunt Dede,”Lainey replied sourly from the back seat.

Another 53 was in order.“Well,if you don’t want to read it,give it back.Maybe your mom would enjoy hearing the story.”
