Phil Weicker and Duncan Forster have spent nearly six years converting a 1969 Cadillac Coupe DeVille into a hot tub on wheels. The cars original V8 engine is used to keep the water the perfect temperature，and watertight① steering systems have been installed.

When its swimming tank has been filled up，the car carries about 5，000lb of water. The former engineering students also fitted it with a marine throttle② so the engine will keep running. The friends first came up with the idea when they were students in Canada. They paid $800 for the vehicle and spent years remodeling it.

With the bubbling water kept at an inviting 102F， and the car fully functioning， the hot tub on wheels is sure to attract attention wherever it goes. Sadly it lacks trunk space as that area has now been filled with a pool filtering③ system.

Weicker and Forster plan to show it off to its full potential next month， when they try to set a land-speed record for the worlds fastest hot tub.“Nobodys ever gone a hundred miles an hour in an open-air self-propelled④ hot tub while sitting neck-deep in restful warm water. We aim to correct that mistake of history this August，”Weicker said.

The friends，who met while studying at McMaster University in the 1990s，have started a crowd sourcing fund to help them get to the speed event in Utah. So far，they have raised more than $11，000 to help towards their dream of taking part in the race over the Bonneville salt flats.

It was while living in student accommodation at the university that the pair hit on the unique idea for the mobile hot tub. A previous tenant had left behind a Chevy Malibu，which Weicker and Forster tried to convert into a mobile hot tub. They admit that it leaked and barely ran，but the moveable hot tub became a popular campus attraction.

“Youd see the car parked on the front lawn of a house，thered be snow all around it and thered be steam coming out of the car. Wed be sitting—five or six guys—in the tub，drinking beers and laughing，”Forster said. Learning from their early tinkerings with the Chevy Malibu， the friends were able to refine the engineering process needed for the Cadillac car pool. Their masterpiece is now ready to be tested to the limit in Utah.
