Pre-reading
Read the first paragraph, watch the picture and predict:
1. What will happen?
2. Do you think they will like each other and become good friends?
3. What would you do if you were one of them?
One day Robin Hood went into the forest alone. He came to a bridge and began to cross the bridge. As he did so a man with a long, thick staff began to cross the bridge from the other side. Soon they met in the middle of the bridge. There was not enough room for them to pass.
“I was on the bridge first,” Robin said.
“You were not,” the other man said. He was much taller than Robin. “I was on the bridge first.”
Robin put an arrow in his bow.
“Move or I shall shoot you!” Robin demanded.
“Move or I shall hit you with my staff,” the tall man said. He had a long, thick staff.
Robin laughed, “My arrow will kill you. Your staff won’t kill me.”
“You are a coward to fight me with a bow and arrow,” the tall man said. “Fight me with a staff like mine.”
“I am not a coward,” Robin said. “I will fight you with a staff. Stay where you are.”
Robin walked away to a tree. He cut a long, thick staff from the tree. He walked back to the middle of the bridge.
“Now I will fight you,” he said. “We will find out who is stronger.”
The two men fought for a long time. They hit one another hard with their staffs.
Then the tall man hit Robin very hard. He fell off the bridge and into the river.
“Now who is the stronger man?” the tall man shouted.
At this moment Will and some of Robin’s men came out of the forest. Will saw Robin in the river.
“Shall we kill this man, Robin?” Will shouted.
“No,” Robin answered as he climbed out of the river. “I want to talk to him.”
“Who are you? What are you doing in the forest?”
“I am looking for Robin Hood,” the tall man said.
“Oh? Why are you looking for him?”
“I want to join his band of outlaws. I want to be one of his men.”
“Why do you want to become an outlaw?”" Robin asked him.
“I am already an outlaw. Prince John took my lands and gave them to one of his men. Now I have no home.”
Robin shook his hand. “Welcome. I am Robin Hood,” he said. “I need strong and brave men like you. You may join my band of outlaws.”
“What is your name?” Will asked him.
“John Little,” the tall man said.
Robin laughed. “You are so tall,” he said. “We will call you Little John!”

原文呈现
My forever friend
Kangbo is a good friend of mine who has a great influence on me.
He is a good listener because of his good temper and kind heart. I still remember that last winter, I failed in my final exam so I walked with sadness in the playground. Suddenly, I heard a voice, “What’s wrong with you? You look sad.” It was from Kangbo. I shook my hand. “It doesn’t matter, relax!” he said. I talked a lot with him that day. I was thankful and thought we could be friends after that.

We have many similar hobbies. One day he shared a song with me, asking whether I had listened to the song before. “Certainly! It is my favourite!” I nodded. What a coincidence! Last month he invited me to a concert. We had a wonderful time there because we have the same taste towards music.
(共同的爱好推动了友谊的发展。除了音乐方面的相似品味,在其他方面是否还有相似之处呢?不妨以小见大,写出更多的“默契”。)
I once had a speech and was so nervous that I almost dropped my tears. Kangbo saw right through me. He came and encouraged me in a soft voice, “Don’t worry, if you feel nervous on the stage, just look at me.” I made up my mind to do a good speech for him, for me, and for everyone. I really did it. After the speech, we hugged each other and laughed happily.
(经历了这件事,和朋友的关系又发生了什么样的变化呢?行文可以表现不同阶段下友谊的逐步深化。)
In my opinion, he is such a warm and even perfect friend. I sincerely hope that our friendship will last forever.

My forever friend
A good friend is someone who you can share your sorrow and joy with. Kangbo is one of this kind.
Kangbo is a good listener with a good temper and a kind heart. Last winter, I failed in my final exam. Being disappointed, I wandered in the playground with my head down. Suddenly, I heard an energetic voice from behind, “It doesn’t matter. Relax!” I turned around and found Kangbo. “We all know you are excellent, you will do better next time.” He went along with me and listened carefully as I poured out my worries. From then on, we became friends.
Our similarities make our friendship stronger. One day he shared a pop song with me and asked whether I loved it or not. To my surprise, it happened to be my favourite song. What a coincidence! We not only have similar tastes towards music, but also art and sports. In our free time, we might go to a concert or go hiking together. We always have a wonderful time.
With time going on, we are able to understand each other perfectly with no need to talk much. I once had a speech and was so nervous that I couldn’t help trembling. Kangbo saw right through me. He came and encouraged me softly, “Don’t worry, if you feel nervous on the stage, just look at me.” I made up my mind to do a good speech for him, for me, and for everyone. I really did it. After the speech, we hugged each other and laughed happily.
I am so lucky to have such a warm and like-minded friend. I sincerely hope that our friendship will last forever.
