One morning I noticed a woman sitting alone at the bus stop. She seemed not tohurry to work. She wasnt going anywhere as well. Was she waiting for the bus? Didmall buses come this early when the stores wouldnt be open for hours? As I droveby, I heard a voice saying,“Give her a bottle of water.”

I was no slow reader, going through books like (联合收割机)running in the field in autumn. But having been prevented from visiting bookstores andlibraries during these days of (隔离), I have decided to make changes. Afterall, didnt someone once say,“It爷s an ill wind that blows nobody any good.”?

My slow reading turned out to be a deeper understanding of the charactersand rich descriptions of northern Newfoundland—so real that I could almost feel thegrass under my feet in New-foundland. I had a quiet sense of achievement that I hadmissed for years.

It took me a month to finish reading the two books. I have had great joy, feltsatisfied and had travelled through time and space. After having discovered the joysof taking my time over a book now, I doubt I will ever again announce with pride,“It only took me a day or a few hours to finish! ”
