Most 15-year-olds are worrying about their math homework and trying to fit in with other kids of their age. But Henry Patterson is busy running a successful online business, instead.

Patterson, a teenager from Bedfordshire, a county in the east of England, started a business called Not Before Tea when he was just nine. He began by selling sweets, but soon turned to household products like wash bags and soft toys. The items he sells feature characters from a book he wrote called The Adventures of Sherb and Pip.

Pattersons early school years were difficult, as he saw the world differently. He was rarely invited to parties or play dates (约会). He also had a stammer (口吃), which made him feel even more lonely.

But these things didnt hold him back. To cheer himself up, Patterson gradually lost himself in designing different animals and writing interesting stories about them. His characters started to become popular. He tried very hard to express himself clearly and talk to bigger audiences. His business has earned him 65,000 pounds and he has spoken at the National Retail Business Awards for Teenagers.

On top of this, he does his best to keep his schoolwork as a priority (優先项). He takes his homework with him to events and does it on the train or after a presentation.

Two years ago, he wrote a book called Young and Mighty. It describes his search for success and happiness.“The real point of the book is to help people my age think about how to make their way in the world,” he wrote.

When British musician Paul Barton performs in Lopburi, his energetic listeners react wildly. Some pull his hair or jump on his piano. Others steal his music. These behaviors are normal; however, these crowds are truly wild—wild monkeys to be exact, who are Bartons latest animal fans. Past wildlife audiences included elephants and deer living in special protected areas. He also once played to cows to please them to get more milk.

Barton plays often to the animals in Lopburi, an area known for wild macaque monkeys. The pianist hopes the music shows bring calmness to the animals, which often suffer hunger during the hard time and become aggressive (好斗的). The limited tourism means fewer people come to see the monkeys and feed them.“On the one hand, we need to make an effort to make sure that they eat correctly. On the other hand, we should try to calm these wild animals down,” said Barton.

Barton has played at four places in Lopburi, including an ancient Hindu temple, a store and an old movie theater. The animals quickly surround Barton when he plays music. Some of the creatures sit on his chair, while others climb up his body and touch his head. However, Barton keeps his attention on his performance, even when some animals run over his hands on the instrument and other animals take controlof his music papers. Barton is happy to find they are curious about him and the piano and enjoy the music as he is playing it.

28. Who are the listeners when Barton performs in Lopburi?

A. Monkeys.  B. Deer.     C. Cows.     D. Elephants.

29. Why does Barton play music to the animals?

A. To show his music talent.     B. To calm the animals down.

A. Piano lessons are taught in the wild. B. A musician helps animals play the piano.

C. Special concerts are held for animals. D. Some measures are taken to protect animals.

It's been a hard time for rhinos (犀牛) lately. Recently the International Union for Conservation announced the western black rhinos had died out in the wild. It was last seen in western Africa in 2006. Now, those who work to protect the animals are trying to make sure that wont happen to other rhinos.

19 south-central black rhinos in South Africa were driven to an area nearly 1,000 miles away, which was said to be the gentlest and quickest way to transport the animals. They were taken to a new home that would keep them safe from hunters (獵人).

Though it is not allowed to hunt rhinos, many are still killed for their horns, which can sell for as much as $30,000 each. Most of them are used to make drugs as traditional medicines in Asian countries. Some people believe that the horns work well in treating pain, fever and even cancer. However, there is no medical evidence yet.

Black rhino population began falling rapidly in the second half of the 1900s because of poaching. In fact, some people still hunt the animals at the risk of being put into prison. And many of the places where the animals used to live were destroyed when people started building farms on the grasslands. Until the 1960s, about 65,000 black rhinos lived throughout most of Africa. Today, fewer than 5,000 are left—most of them in zoos and wildlife reserves.

So far, the south-central black rhinos have seen a rise in numbers. It is hoped that, with continued support, these rhinos can escape the unfortunate result of the western black rhinos.
