Abstract:
Cross-cultural communication promotes communication and exchange among different countries and nations at political, economic, and cultural levels. At the same time, it also brings shock and confusion to college students' political beliefs, national identity, and cultural understanding due to the variety of values, ideals, and faiths. Minzu colleges and universities should pay attention to the potential threat of this multi-cultural information, so that they can better forge the college students' sense of community of the Chinese nation as well as the positive role of cross-cultural education in cultivating college students' sense of community for the Chinese nation.
The purpose of multi-cultural education is to enable the educated to inclusively understand andcelebrate other cultures while also knowing their own culture, and finally realize the harmonious coexistence and common development of different cultures. As for cross-cultural education in a foreign language class at Minzu colleges and universities, it is to impart the knowledge of foreign languages and cultures for a better understanding of overseas countries and communication with the outside world. It could be said that a foreign language class at the university level is one of the best platforms for intercultural education, and also one of the most effective and important places for Minzu colleges and universities to consolidate a sense of community for the Chinese nation among college students. Therefore, Minzu colleges and universities should give full play to the role of multi-cultural education in foreign language classes. The positive effects of cross-cultural education in foreign language classes at Minzu colleges and universities are as follows: first, teaching foreign language knowledge and culture in intercultural foreign language classes can improve students' ability of critical thinking while facing tremendous pieces of cross-cultural information and enhancing their national and political identity. Second, an introduction to China's national situation, history, and culture during multi-cultural foreign language courses will help college students to spread the image and voice of China and enhance their national and cultural identity.
How to maintain college students' cultural confidence and enhance their identification with the community of the Chinese nation in the face of complex intercultural communication? We should take the principle of “having strong cultural confidence, promoting cross-cultural ability” as the core of multi-cultural foreign language teaching, giving full play to the role of teachers in intercultural education to improve students' ability of critical thinking so as to make them keep confidence in the face of all kinds of multi-cultural information. To be more precise, foreign language classes in Minzu colleges and universities should include the teaching of the fine traditional Chinese culture, the history of the unity of the Chinese nation, and the impressive achievements of every social class and profession in the New China, so as to enhance college students' sense of community of the Chinese nation and increase their ability to communicate Chinese culture.
