The Quiet Painter

Pierre Lemonde lives in a small village in southern France. He spends most of his time painting country subjects， like farmers， animals， and trees. His favorite place to paint is on a cliff overlooking a wide river. Sometimes boats go by， carrying all sorts of interesting things. He paints them， too.

Pierre wasnt always a painter. He once lived in a big city， selling things like televisions and radios. But 50 years in the city was enough for him. He prefers life in the countryside and the peaceful feeling it brings him.

Although he grew up in a loud city， Pierre is a polite and quiet man. He doesnt talk much. He prefers to listen to the soft sounds of the fields， the animals， and the gently flowing river.
