流失文物马首铜像回家

A bronze horse head sculpture 【雕塑】，a treasure of China's Old Summer Palace that went missing after an Anglo-French allied forces'looting【抢动，洗劫】 160 years ago， returned to its original palace home on December 1st. It is the first time that a lost important cultural relic from the Old Summer Palace， or “Yuanmingyuan"， has been returned to and housed at its original location after being repatriated 【遺返，歸国】from overseas. Twelve animal head sculptures once formed a zodiac 【生肖】water clock in Bejing's Yuanmingyuan，builtby Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty （1644-1911）. The originals were looted from the royal garden by Anglo-French allied forces in 1860 during the Second Opium War （1856-1860）. The horse head， designed by Italian artistGiuseppe Castiglione and crafted by royal craftsmen， is an artistic blend of East and West. Macao billionaire Stanley Ho bought the bronze horse head and decided to donate it to the National Cultural Heritage Administration and return it to its original home.

The new height of Mount Qomolangma， the world's highest peak， is 8，848.86 meters， according to ajoint announcement by China and Nepal on December 8th. President Xi Jinping， exchanging letters with his Nepali counterpart Bidya Devi Bhandari called Mount Qomolangma“an important symbol of the China-Nepal traditional friendship". For more than a year， the two countries' survey teams have overcome all kinds of difficulties， solidly carried out their work， and finally reached a conclusion on the snow height based on the International Height Reference System， he said. Thejoint announcement of the new peak heightis of great significance in carrying forward the undertakings of the predecessors【前任，前辈】to the future and showcasing the high level of the continuous development of China-Nepal relations， Xi noted.  Chinese survey team reached the summit of Mount Qomolangma on May 27 and remeasured 【重新测量】the peak height. The team members remained at the summit for two and a half hours， a new record for Chinese climbers. Nepali surveyors reached the top of the mountain in May 2019.

3 “Quarantine'" word of the year

“隔离”成剑桥词典年度词

Cambridge Dictionary has revealed its word of the year is "quarantine【隔高】” According to the dictionary， “quarantine” was searched for the most in between March 18 and 24， when restrictions began to be imposed due to the pandemic.Alongside “quarantine”， other coronavirus-related words， including “pandemic" and “lockdown"， ranked highly on Cambridge Dictionary's most popular list for 2020. There were also several new words added to the dictionary， including “HyFlex"， which is short for hybrid flexible， a term used to describe a style of teaching that sees some students participating in a class virtually while others are also there physically. ‘Elbow bump" was also added as a way of referring to a friendly greeting that allows people to maintain social distancing.

A woman has baked a 6ft cake of a “nurse hugging Father Christmas to thank NHS staff for their life saving work on the frontline.
