Abstract:Local chronicles study in China has made certainprogresses with its research methods further deepened and specified.However,its development is still far from perfect,and summaries of research methods are mostly limited to compilation methods or methodological elaboration for some parts,with few examinations on specific research methods.This paper holds that the research methods commonly used in local chronicles study are reflected in three levels:data collection,thinking analysis and research technology,mainly including textual research,quantitative analysis,comparison,case analysis,featured with hierarchy,complexity and continuous development.The future research methods of local chronicles study should resort to big data and interdisciplinary methods to further improve its own scientific basis,and to keep updating research methods.

Abstract:Local chronicle literature and non-fiction writing have aroused wide attention in society in recent years,especially in the fields of literature and journalism where local chronicle literature and non-fiction writing haveelevated from practice?to the?theoretical?level.Continued efforts have been made in these two new styles,which have gradually shown consistency with local chronicles in terms of disciplinary connotation.The indifferent reactions of the local chronicle community to these two new styles testifies to the weakness and limitation of local chronicles in interdisciplinary and theoretical development,as well as to the fact that they still have"a long way to go"in terms of application and development.

Abstract:Xiong Xiang was a famous chronicler in the Ming Dynasty.Being complete in styles,rich in content and full and accurate in historical materials,Ruizhou Prefecture Annales of Zhengde Period,Sichuan Annals of Zhengde Period and Jizhou Prefecture Annales of Jiajing Period compiled by him greatly facilitate the study of politics,economy and culture of Ming Dynasty,and provide reliable and valuable materials especially for the study of local history of Ruizhou,Sichuan and Jizhou.As a chronicler,Xiong Xiang argued that compilation of local chroniclesserves to"benefit social moralization."He adopted?a practical attitude with an emphasis on the inheritance and innovation of style.This is of great reference value for the compilation of local chronicles nowadays.

Abstract:The compilation of sub-district records is becoming increasingly prominent in terms of value and significance.But compared with city and district(county)records,it is meeting with more difficulties and problems in practical operation:mechanism weakness is the underlying reason for all difficulties,data collection poses the greatest challenge in practice and lack of prominent characteristicsis a universal feature.The author intends to explore solutions and propose preliminary solutionsthrough analysis,in the hope of improving the compilation quality of sub-district records and preserving the historical and cultural value of sub-districts to the maximum extent possible.

Abstract:Theoretical research of almanac is faced withthree problems:Chaotic concepts,immature disciplinary system,and unsoundregular working mechanism.Based on the analysis of these problems,this paper proposes corresponding solutions—unifying consensus and constructing an independent concept system of almanac;bringing all possible efforts to construct the almanac disciplinary system;planning and building a sound regular working mechanism for almanac theoretical research.

Abstract:Shen Bao Yearbookwasa comprehensive yearbook published independently by Chinese people during the Republic of China.Its publication was a result of the prosperity and development of Shanghai's press industry in the1930s,the golden decade of the yearbook industry and the development and expansion of Shen Bao Office.Shen Bao Yearbookboasted a relatively sound system in content editing and a set of complete and effective commercial publishing and distribution mechanism.By studying the editing and publishing of Shen Bao Yearbook,we can not only explore and analyze the development level and status of almanac in the period of the Republic of China,but can also gain historical experience for the material collection,personnel training,and dissemination and application of yearbooks,as well as the mutual learning of yearbooks between China and foreign countries nowadays.

Abstract:This paper intends to explore the relationship between modern urban society and local opera culture by studying the relationship between Shanghai and its local opera—Shanghai Opera.There have been numerous previous studies on modern Shanghai society.However,little research is made on the relationship between opera and public life.This paper briefly reviews the origin of Shanghai Opera and its penetration in urban life in the1920s to1940s and then discusses the social acceptance of Shanghai Opera during this period from the two perspectives of formsand contents,initiating a new angle to view the city of Shanghai.

Abstract:Lu Shusheng was a scholar born in Huating County,Songjiang Prefecture in southern China.Around the 17thyear of Wanli Period,he wrote the book Townsmen Assembly Convention.Following the general principle of thrifty,the book establishes rules on the use and delivery of visiting cards,the ceremonies in receiving and meeting guests as well as dressing codes and other aspects,embodying Lu Shusheng's idea of restraining extravagance—opposing red tape and extravagance,emphasizinggenuinefeelings,and observingproper rules of etiquette.Lu's idea of restraining extravagance is best characterized by the combination of village conventions and family precepts.Townsmen Assembly Convention,which integrates the nature of village conventions and family precepts,was an attempt of scholars in the regions south of the Yangtze River represented by Lu Shusheng to restrain extravagance and rescue local customs.

Abstract:Zhehu was an ancient lake in Southwest Shanghai and has disappeared.It is concluded through textual research that Zhehu Lake was located in the southeast of Jinshan District,Shanghai,somewhere between Zhangyan Town,Jinshanwei Town,Dajinshan Island and Caojing Town.It had 18 water inlets,including Huanggujing and Zhangjing,and two water outlets of Xiaoguanpu and Jinshanpu.The lake body was formed before AD 2,and it began to recededuring the Zhenghe Period of Northern Song Dynasty(1111—1118),and was completely silted up into land in the Yuan Dynasty.Located in the transition area of saltwater and fresh water,the Zhehu Lake played an important role in desalinating the sea water from south and discharging the floods from north,and exertedgreat influence on the surrounding water environment.The waterways formed after it was silted up have become important channels for agricultural irrigation and waterway transportation in the region.

Abstract:Taking Baosheng Emperor(God of Medicine)Temple and Temple of Three Mountain Kings for example,this paper discusses the attitudes of local officials towards folk beliefs by studying Taiwan local records compiled in Qing Dynasty.The research shows that folk beliefs were usually listed in Additional Records or Miscellaneous Recordsof official local chronicles;while altars and temples in the national sacrificial system were included in Records of Sacrifices or Records of Offerings,with distinctive gap yet flexible space between the two kinds.In actual practice,most officials adopted tolerant attitudes and showed respect to the original local beliefs and habits with little or no intervention as long as they were not harmful to social ethics orsocial order.How officials viewed folk beliefs was mainly determined by state will,while the ancestral and ethnic consciousness was also an influencing factor.It was particularly true in Taiwan society,which was mainly composed of immigrants from the Chinese Mainland.

Abstract:Manuscript of Shanghai General Annals and Manuscript of Hebei General Annals,which were compiled by Shanghai General Annals House and Hebei General Annals House during the Republic of China,were respectively published in 2019 and 1993.This paper analyzes the similarities and differences between the two old records from four aspects:source of manuscripts,collation of contents,arrangement of contents,principles of collation and publication.By comparing the collation and publication of Manuscript of Shanghai General Annals and Manuscript of Hebei General Annals,this paper aims to shed some light on the collation of general annals of the Republic of China and facilitate greater achievements in the collation and research of these general annals,precious treasures left by previous generations of chroniclers.

Abstract:Hanzhong Prefecture Annals,an important piece of local literature during the Ming-Qing transition period,was compiled mainly by Feng Dadao during the Shunzhi Period of Qing Dynasty.Annotations to Hanzhong Prefecture Annals of Shunzhi Period published in recent years has brought the ancient book"hidden"for more than 300 years to light.The Annotations,which strictly abides by the academic norms of ancient book collation,citescopious literature for historical textual criticisms and explanations,selects materials properly,offers reasonable explanations of historical events,and makes reasonable correction of errors and mistakes,is of high academic value and is indeed a high-quality collation work of ancient books.

Abstract:The compilation and publication of Homestead Records of Hongqiao Towns and Villages provides a picture of rural homesteads,the most primitive cells,and the daily life of farmers in the agricultural society,being of great historical and practical significance for inheriting the Chinese farming culture dating back to more than 4000 years ago and studying the urbanization of farmers in the suburbs.Deepening the study of local chronicles to compile village homestead records is a great innovation for the compilation of local chronicles.The author holds that all qualified suburbs should organize resources to compile and publish their own village homestead records.

Abstract:Since the late20th century,a number of new chronicles written in Chinese with Kokang Chinese and the Wa People as the objects have appeared in Northern Myanmar.Most of them have been compiled for the first time,with the Kokang Chinese and the Wa People as the main chroniclers,supported by professionals in the cities and counties of Yunnan Province in the surrounding areas of Northern Myanmar.The records are unique in that they learn from the compilation experience of local records in the cities and counties of Yunnan,reconstruct the writing forms of local history,combine themselves with general knowledge survey,reflect regional characteristics,create new styles and highlight key problems of the times.The compilation of new local chronicles of Northern Myanmar is a new form of local cooperation that promotes cultural exchanges between China and Myanmar,and provides an important reference for the governments and people of neighbouring countries to understandlocal situation.
