Analysis of College English Listening Training Methods

Abstract: Listening plays an important role in English learning. It can not only train students' English sense, but also practice spoken English, accumulate and use English vocabulary and grammar, thereby accelerating the process of learning and learning English, and help us improve our English learning . However, the importance of English listening learning is easily overlooked by the learners and has not received enough attention. This article expounds the importance of college English listening, analyzes the role of English listening, and explores the methods of college English listening training. It aims to help learners learn English well and improve their English learning.

In the process of language learning at all levels and types, the role of listening has been widely recognized, and listening teaching has always played a pivotal role in college English teaching.[1] But it is not a overnight effort to improve the level of college English listening. This is a learning process that needs to be accumulated. In addition, the importance of English listening learning is easily overlooked by the learners and has not received enough attention. We know that the goal requires college students to have comprehensive English skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation. Among them, listening is the top priority, and listening is the prerequisite for carrying out other language learning activities.[2] Therefore, the importance of English listening must attract the attention of learners, improve their attitude towards listening, and improve the quality and level of their listening.
In daily college English lectures, teachers mostly play audio tapes, and learners answer questions and practice listening while listening. We found that this is not a training and enhancement of students 'listening level, but a test of students' listening ability. It does not conform to the laws of students 'physical and mental development, and it is not conducive to the development of students' listening ability. It is an unscientific learning method. In college English listening teaching, this is a very common process. This teaching process was criticized by Field as "testing listening instead of teaching listening".[1]In the process of listening to the recording, if there is one omission, it will cause anxiety, which will easily affect the next listening practice. In the long run, the learner's hearing will not be improved, but it will greatly reduce the enthusiasm for learning English. It is not good for learners to learn English, nor can it improve the quality and level of English listening, and English education and teaching will become sluggish. Therefore, we must try our best to restrain, overcome and break this situation, and give a free space for learning English listening.
Listening is not a single ability, it is inseparable from all aspects of English vocabulary, grammar, reading level and other assistance. If you want to gain good English listening skills, you must first ensure that the basic knowledge is consolidated and solid. The accumulation of vocabulary, proficiency in grammar, mastery of reading level, and acquisition of oral ability are all indispensable preparation conditions. Vocabulary and grammar help learners practice listening and respond to the content of listening in a timely manner so as to understand listening and exercise listening. Listening will also help learners to review vocabulary and grammar repeatedly. This is a mutual practice process. Therefore, improving the listening level has a crucial effect on the comprehensive English ability. However, the analysis of the data shows that there is not enough motivation to learn to keep students enthusiastic about English listening, whether it is internal motivation or external motivation. Learning motivation is the driving force for students' English learning. If the motivation for learning is not enough to drive learners to learn English listening, then it is not a good thing for the students. It is necessary to adjust and correct in time. Interest is the best teacher. If there is no driving force in the learning process, then whether it is college English learning or learning for English listening, it will not be effectively improved or good learning results. The same is true for English listening. First of all, to increase the interest in English listening learning, students themselves to increase their interest in English listening learning is on the one hand, on the other hand, English teachers should actively explore and improve listening teaching models, mobilize students' enthusiasm for learning, so as to improve the efficiency of English teaching.
In the language learning process, listening is an important means to absorb language knowledge and cultivate language ability. This reflects the important status of college English listening learning. Listening lessons are an indispensable part of foreign language teaching. The quality and quantity of listening lessons directly affect the reception of language knowledge, the training of basic language skills and the level of practical ability training.
