I. Big Five Personality Factor Model
Allport proposed that “personality is a dynamic organization in the individual psychological system and it determines the unique pattern of individual thoughts and behaviors”. Costa and McCrae believe that the connotation of personality traits mainly includes individual’s behaviors and persistence and meaning of existence of various traits. We call the constant and consistent trait response that occurs when an individual’s behaviors are in a variety of different situations the personality trait. Personality traits can explain the reasons for the occurrence of personal behaviors to some extent, because a person’s values and preferences are often reflected in his or her personality traits, and a person’s traits often affect his or her behavioral patterns. An individual’s behaviors often reflect his or her unique personality traits, such as shyness, obedience, loyalty and timidity. These traits are called “personality traits” if they continue to appear in many different situations. Therefore, personality traits are a stable and extremely important component in a person’s life.
Ⅱ. NEO Personality Inventory
Costa and McCrae developed a NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI), a scale used to measure the five major factors of personality. The scale has been translated into a number of different languages and has good reliability and validity in different contexts. It is one of the most widely used scales in measuring FFM in the world. This study intends to apply FFM as the basis of personality construction in the discussion of online game players’ personality traits.
Ⅲ. Study Design
The variables of the personality traits scale were selected according to the variables in the Big Five Model of Glodberg. The Big Five Model has 5 dimensions with 42 variables. This study selected 25 variables to interpret the personality traits of game players. The variables are arranged as shown in table 3. In this study, the degree of recognition of each personality trait narrative item wasticked by the respondents themselves through the questionnaire survey, and the 5-point semantic difference scale was used to measure the self-personality traits perceived by the respondents. Therefore, a total of 80 respondents all college students (including 42 males and 38 females).
Ⅳ. Conclusion
The options for averaging from high to low are responsible (3.57)、trustworthy(3.54)、fantasy(3.52)、cheerful(3.51)、unpretentious(3.48)、amiable(3.40)、generous(3.36)、casual(3.33)、loyal(3.29)、warm-hearted(3.26)、calm(3.26)、thirst for knowledge(3.26).
