nance was prevailing and feministic topics were prohibited, Jane Austen had to use irony to make her own voice (mostly related to women's marriage, education, morality and patriarchal system) vaguely and publicly, so that she could avoid being attacked by the contemporary society. By using irony, Austen put a thin veil on Northanger Abbey and tried to share the themes and soul of the work with the readers of keen insight and good judgment. Although it takes many setbacks to have Northanger Abbey published, although it may not as mature and well-known as Jane Austen's other novels, it is still a precious treasure in the history of British literature.
