Education is believed to be one of the most significant approaches to build ones perspective in the world. As the communication among different areas has deepened, the differences in various aspects turn up. The one that attracts the attention of the public most is the diverse educational systems. As it ought to be, the dissimilarities of education between the West and the East can undoubtedly catch the sight of us in China.
1. System of education
From ancient times to the present, Chinese prefer trying ones best to study for higher achievement in learning no matter how old he is. This leads to the heavy pressure from study for all the students in China. ‘Live and learn, as the saying goes, Chinese students would face high pressure since they are young. Whats worse, Chinese schools are fond of the ‘duck-stuffing type of teaching, which means the school can rarely let the students know the fun and meaning of learning knowledge and all the students can just accept the knowledge passively. Moreover, as the insipid learning goes on, it is easy for students to be tired of study, then lose the enthusiasm for it. To some degree, thats why the university students in China behave less diligently and hard than the ones in the West.
In the West, the class mainly aims to arouse students interests in self-learning. Teachers wont just speak out or write down the formulas or something else. Their approach of study is a way of seeking for knowledge by oneself. In that way, students do not think highly of the marks. They care about acquiring the real knowledge. They not only use it when taking an exam, but also totally understand the knowledge and remember it by heart. So just owing to the good learning habit formed when they are young, they can totally put their heart and soul into study in university.
2. Class mode
The discipline in Chinese class is so strict that all students should sit straight on chair. For one thing, the strict discipline does kill students natural instincts. Students are reticent, shy and inactive for they are all afraid of making mistakes. For another, the stringent rules make all of them sensible, polite and respectful. The students have got good manners and show respect for the elder. Things on campus are all in order.
Quite the contrary, the Western class mode is far more relaxing. And in the class, the teacher is not the protagonist. He will just raise questions and let the students to find solution by themselves, which can exercise the students ability for self-thinking. It seems that the rules are not that significant in Western class. Surprisingly, the main goal of the course is to motivate students to think and seek for knowledge. The teacher will make the students explain their own opinion on the blackboard and others, including the teacher, can raise any questions in terms of things they are interested in. Instead of straightly pointing out the students mistake, the teacher will just correct it and encourage the students to behave better the next time.
3. The admission criteria
How to enter an excellent school is always a big problem to students in China. To be honest, the most crucial factor in getting an entry into the school is the score. Most of the Chinese schools would just matriculate the one who reaches the entry scores no matter how his personality and other kind of capabilities are. The only way of being admitted by the ideal school is to get higher marks. Regardless of whether you have another talent which is far more necessary than getting high marks in the society or not, the school simply turn down your apply for your not gaining the required scores. In that way, a great many of students are addicted to games while failing in keeping the balance of the study and then just miss the chance to receive good education.
However, things are not like that in the West. In addition to the scores, schools in the West also pay attention to the interview performance. Moreover, the scores just occupy a little part in the admission criteria, the more important standard of whether they are enrolled or not is their present behavior in the interview. Even in the school, the evaluation of students is mostly taken up by ones contribution to the society, instead of the exam performance. This way of choosing students vastly exercise ones leadership, operational ability and cooperative ability. Therefore, the Western graduates can readily adopt to the cruel society.
4. Conclusion
In a word, the differences in education lead to diverse attitudes towards study. Obviously, it seems that a mass of aspects need to be improved in the future in Chinese educational system. In reality, the educational mode in the West is not that perfect either, we should learn good points from it, gradually better our education approaches, give students more guidance and encouragement to show his talent.
