China launched the Haiyang-1C (HY-1C) satellite into its preset orbit on a LM-2C carrier rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center at 11:15 Beijing time on September 7.

HY-1C was developed by the DFH Satellite Co., Ltd under the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST). It is the first launched satellite of China’s marine satellites in the 12th Five-Year of the National Civil Space Infrastructure, as well as the third satellite of China’s water color series satellite. It will monitor the global ocean color and water temperatures, providing services for the development and utilization of marine living resources in China, the construction and governance of estuaries, the monitoring and control of marine pollution, the investigation and development of coastal resources, and the study of global environmental change.

China launched its first marine satellite, HY-1A, in May, 2002, and HY-1B satellite in April, 2007. The satellites have acquired a large amount of marine monitoring data and played an important role in marine scient ific research and national economic construction during their inorbit operation.

Follow the HY-1B satellite, HY-1C ocean color monitoring satellite will be delivered to the National Satellite Ocean Application Center for operation management and application service after the in-orbit test.

The LM-2C carrier rocket was developed by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT). This was the 284th flight of the LM series launch vehicle. (MIAO Shanshan/China Space News)
