In the modern Chinese painting field， Qi Baishi is a very unique painter who starts the art career late with no education background but excellent skills and great reputation. He is one of the most famous “Beijing drifter painters” of the Republic of China and one of the purest artists of the time. In his entire lifetime， Qi has never had a desire to enter the official circles， and is lazy about socializing and competition with others. He always immerses himself in the experience of art with a pure heart to create simple and innocent works of art.

齊白石1864年生于湖南长沙府湘潭白石铺杏子坞星斗塘，名纯芝，字渭清，又字兰亭；27岁改名璜，字频生，别号白石山人，又号寄园。在近现代中国画坛，齐白石是极为独特的一位，他“出道”晚、“学历”低，却功力深、名气大，且十分长寿。他是民国时最著名的“北漂”画家之一，也是当时最纯粹的艺术家之一。

幼时，齐白石从外祖父读书时，便常用习字本、账薄纸作画，表现出了一些绘画天赋。因为家境贫寒，齐白石没读过几年书便去学习木工，此后较长一段时期都以木工为生。然而，做木工之余，他还是以残本《芥子园》为师，自学绘画。

20几岁时，齐白石正式拜师学画；近40岁起，齐白石开始四方游历，五出五归；57岁时，齐白石正式成了一名“北漂”；60多岁时，齐白石衰年变法，画技方有大成。

齐白石的一生，从来没有入仕愿望，也懒于应酬，不管闲事，与世无争。他始终以一颗纯真的心沉浸在艺术体验之中，方能创造出那许多纯粹、质朴、充满童真的艺术作品。
