People have a love-hate feeling on coffee cups. Love the convenience(方便), hate the waste.
“Coffee cups” are little plastic or aluminum(铝), coffee containers(容器)that are used to brew a single cup of coffee.
They are used in coffee makers made by companies like Keurig, Nespresso and Tassimo.
People like them because each person can make one single cup of coffee, just the way they like it.
The problem is, those little cups are difficult if not impossible to reuse. Thats because theyre made of different kinds of things: a plastic or aluminum cup, a paper container and an iron cover, together with the grounds themselves, which are organic(有机的). They can hardly break down in a natural way over time, which means that theyll live in the land for a long time.
Its not a small problem. The Atlantic reported, Keurig has sold nine thousand million of the little cups. And theyre just one of many companies that sell them.
“In fact, Hamburg, in Germany(德国), didnt allow buying the ‘partly packaged coffee and hot drinks in government buildings these days. At present, one in eight coffees in Germany is now made with a “Kaffeekapselmaschine,” reported the BBC.
Even the person who has invented the Keurig K-Cup doesnt like them. John Sylvan told a reporter for The Atlantic last year that he doesnt have one, and that they are quite expensive to use. He also said that sometimes he feels bad that he ever invented them, because of the environmental problems they cause.
