Nash: Thank you. I've always believed in numbers, in the equations①equation英 [ɪ'kweɪʒ(ə)n] 美 [ɪ'kweʒn] n. 方程式,等式;相等;[化学] 反应式and logics that lead to reason. But after a lifetime of such pursuits, I ask, "What truly is logic? Who decides reason?" My quest has taken me through the physical, the metaphysical②metaphysical英 [metə'fɪzɪk(ə)l] 美 [,mɛtə'fɪzɪkl] adj. 形而上学的;超自然的;玄学派诗歌的, the delusional — and back. And I have made the most important discovery of my career, the most important discovery of my life: It is only in the mysterious equations of love that any logical reasons can be found. I'm only here tonight because of you (his wife, Alicia). You are the reason I am. You are all my reasons. Thank you.
1. There's no embarrassment①embarrassment英 [ɪm'bærəsmənt; em-]美 [ɪm'bærəsmənt] n.
The number one rule with your best friends: never feel embarrassed to say what's on your mind. You can tell them anything, and I mean anything, and they won't care.
It's probably because they can relate. You're both women, so they know exactly how it feels when your emotions go haywire②haywire英 ['heɪwaɪə] 美 ['hewaɪɚ] adj. 乱糟糟的,乱七八糟的;疯狂的during that time of the month.
Explaining this to your boyfriend isn't always easy, and for the most part they just don't get it. There's no shame telling your friends about your digestive③digestive英 [daɪ'dʒestɪv; dɪ-] 美 [daɪ'dʒɛstɪv] adj. 消化的;助消化的problems or ingrown hairs - they totally understand and will never judge you for it.
2. They give great advice
The best advice usually comes from a close relative or your girlfriends. They know you very well, and because they have been through similar④similar英 ['sɪmɪlə] 美 ['sɪməlɚ] adj. 相似的situations themselves, they are always there to help you out in your time of need.
You can hardly ask your boyfriend about boy problems - it just wouldn't have the same outcome⑤outcome英 ['aʊtkʌm] 美 ['aʊt'kʌm] n.
3. They remember the little details
A true best friend will never forget your birthday or other important dates that mean a lot to you. They make it their mission to remember the little things about you; how you two met, your favorite movie, how you like your coffee, and all of the other small details that shape you into the person you are.
Your boyfriend will probably have to be reminded of important dates and will most definitely⑥def i nitely英 ['defɪnɪtlɪ] 美 ['dɛfɪnətli] adv. 清楚地,当然;明确地,肯定地forget your anniversary⑦anniversary英 [ænɪ'vɜːs(ə)rɪ] 美 [,ænɪ'vɝsəri] n.
4. They like the same things
One of the reasons you and your girls get along so well is because you have a lot in common. They are always down to binge⑧binge英 [bɪn(d)ʒ] 美 [bɪndʒ] n. 放纵watch Friends or Gossip Girl, which is really not your boyfriend’s kind of thing.
