一、教学目标
Knowledge and Ability objects
1. To make the Ss master the new useful words and expressions in this reading passage.
2. To make the Ss understand the whole passage and know the harm of smoking and the ways to quit smoking.
3. Make the Ss the real masters in class while the teacher himself acts as the director
4. Train them with some effective learning methods to optimize the students' learning results.
Moral objects
1. Enable the students to know the harm of smoking and keep away from it.
2. Develop the Ss ability of cooperation.

三、教学环节
Step1. Greetings
Step2. Lead-in
Show a sign of “No Smoking” to the Ss and ask them such questions: Are you smoking? Is there anybody smoking in your family? Then ask: What is the harm of smoking?
Step3. Reading
T: Now that there is so much harm of smoking, why do so many people smoke today?
With this question, Ss read the letter from grandad and try to find out the reasons why people are addicted to smoking.
The reasons are: a. physically addicted to nicotine;
b. addicted through habit; c. mentally addicted.
1. Fast reading
Questions:
What is the problem that James has?
In what way did Grandad try to persuade James to give up smoking?
2. Careful reading
1) Let Ss read each paragraph loud with the tape , find out the main idea of each paragraph and then fill in the follong chart:
2)Let Ss read the passage on the Internet page and find out:What are the suggestions?
Step4. Activity
Suppose you were James and paid a visit to his grandad, and grandad tried to persuade him to give up smoking. Make a dialogue and act out this situation.
You can begin like this: G: My dear child, your mother told me that you have started smoking.
J: Yes, grandad. I find it very difficult to give up. Have you ever had such experience when you were young?
G: Can you tell me why you smoke?
Step5. Group work
Please write down 4-5 sentences to persuade your father or your relative who is addicted to cigarettes to quit smoking.
Step6. Conclusion
Teacher concludes: In the daily life, you should never try smoking, and I hope all of you will live an active and healthy life.
四、教后反思
这节课以吸烟这个话题为线索,以任务活动为中心,设计了丰富多彩的教学活动。教学实施过程中体现了学生“自主——探究——合作”的学习方式,以师生合作、互动为教学策略,体现了自主学习的特色,体现了《英语课程标准》的精神。
1.高中英语新教材以任务型教学为主。其中我设计了James和爷爷的对话,然后这堂课在完成教学的基础上,布置了一个书面表达任务。从口头到书面,帮助学生提高运用语言的能力,解决问题的能力并培养学生自主学习、合作探究的能力。同时,这对学生的情感态度和价值观也是一次好的培养,能够教育他们远离吸烟。
2.在课堂中自始至终以学生为中心。课文导入从“No smoking”这个标志开始,问及学生自己有没有吸烟,父亲或亲戚有没有吸烟,最后又回到如何劝告父亲或亲戚戒烟上来,鼓励学生积极参与课堂参与这些活动,对于这堂课中所学的吸烟的危害和戒烟的方法用自己的语言表达,起到知识输出的作用。而且课堂上花了大量的时间让学生朗读,体现了人人参与课堂的原则。
隨着新课程改革的实施,我们每个教师都应该积极探索英语教学的新思路和新方法,善于结合实际教学需要,合理地使用和安排教材,使之符合学生实际情况兼顾各类学生,体现教师的主导作用和学生的主体地位。
