Wei Xins works investigate whether the traditional medium of painting can survivein the digital age. He has used printmaking transfer techniques to make paintings and became well know in the 2009s for his manipulations of the conventions of painting. More recently, he has relied upon digital and industrial techniques to infuse his paintingprocess with spatial and temporal concerns. The results are environmental paintings, animations, and “Paintants” that combine digitally manipulated imagery, sculptural form, and three dimensionally painted surfaces.
Wei Xins works are extensively exhibited, some worth to mentioning; the Zhuhai GuyuanArts Museum, the Guanlan Arts Museum, the Shanghai Arts Museum, the Macao ArtsMuseum, the Zhejiang Arts Museum and the National Art Museum of China. Internationally he has represented his country in Italy, Germany, Slovenia and other Europeancountries. He is a member of the China Artists Association as well as the Chinese Folklore Photographers Association. In 2006, was chosen as one of ten Excellent Chinese Artists at the Fair on Chinese Collection Culture. In 2009, Wei was honored with a documentary film The Arts and Life of Wei Xin, produced by Guangdong Satellite Television, and recognized with the Excellency Award at the 2009 China International Documentaries Awards. The documentary was broadcasted in Australia and the USA.

长期以来,在所有的绘画领域,艺术家总是试图努力提高绘画语言的表现,这正是魏新所做的卓越探索。在他近几年探索景德镇千年釉色的作品中感受到色彩和形式之间的张力,是一种对视觉破坏的终极“宣战”,是对传统油画媒介——亚麻布的恐怖袭击。从它所产生的遗迹中人类可体悟到所谓罗曼蒂克的绘画媒介被惨无人道地蹂躏之后产生的壮观景象,和又如电荷般的细微差别,以及直接的能量总是让人心怀激荡。虽然颜料是一个主要媒介,艺术家是色调和色调应用的特别敏感者,当我们看到艺术家的作品光谱颜色渗透视觉时,它所散发的活力和存在是对观者心灵愉悦的无限满足。
在魏新的每一个充满活力的“笔触”中带出残像,这似乎慢慢使其表面的图案以平面的方式来表现。它是动态的张力和释放,人们尝试“读”,因为我们得花时间。这里的已知和未知并存,有形和无形的,看不见的辨识。这是艺术家挑衅的世界,它源于一种罕见的洞察力。
魏新,湖北省荆州人。中国美术家协会会员、国家一级美术师、中国民俗摄影家协会会士。父亲为著名漆画家、油画家,自幼受其影响,酷爱绘画。
1986年,毕业于湖北工艺美术学校,之后师从李青萍先生学习泼彩画数年。
1997年,毕业于华南师范大学油画硕士研究班,受教于尚扬先生工作室专习油画。
2008年巨幅油画《九歌》被入选并获奖由文化部艺术司、中国油画学会联合举办的《拓展与融合——中国现代油画研究展》。
