GDP Is Not All About China

GDP isn't the most useful measurement for an economy's health. China wants to change this equation, rebalancing China's economy toward one based more around consumption than investment as well as one based more on services than manufacturing. But this isn't a change that will occur overnight, and China remains a place where its robust GDP masks major structural weaknesses in the economy.

Dilemma In Giving Gift

Giving gift has always been an important part in Chinese people’s life, but it is in conflict with the anti-corruption. This year, the Chinese government has been a wet blanket by strictly criticizing the immoderate gift-giving. The tradition of giving gifts has something to do with the severe competition for education, health care and employment among the large number of Chinese people. Giving-gift has been a hot online topic, and both the giver and receiver have expressed their ambivalence.

Rich Chinese Tourists Won Reputation

Hordes of Chinese flock to the West End during national holiday for shopping that makes Saudis look frugal. The Chinese spend an average of £8,000 each on shopping in London alone, according to the survey. They might be incredibly rich, but unlike the Middle Easterns who block up Knightsbridge with their clamped Ferraris, the Chinese are quiet, discreet and polite. They often take their booty back on the Tube, and offer up their seats to more deserving travelers.

China’s Rise Needs U.S

As for China’s becoming the second largest economic body, the open international economic system designed by the United States contributed a lot. The Washington financial stalemate triggered China’s severe response. China hopes to see U.S fulfills its global obligations. If lacking the firm support from America, the multilateral order will further deteriorate. As the biggest benefited country, China will be the biggest loser if the global order malfunctioned.

Lower Water Price Leads To Extravagance

The South-North Water Diversion Project, at a cost of more than $50 billion, can help China solve the serious problem of water shortage, but that is not enough. The government would do better to focus on demand, reducing consumption of water in order to make better use of limited supplies. Water is too cheap in most cities of China, usually costing a tenth of prices in Europe. Such mispricing results in extravagance.

Tuhao in China

Earlier in October, a namele8b679d41f56dc38cbf2308a7c79294f4ss woman in Anhui province became the most famous Tuhao, who gave his son-in-law a Bentley car worth about 4 million yuan as the wedding gift. To this, there are both irony and admiration online. The Chinese hate Tuhao, but to hold a position in the more competitive society, having some connection with the Tuhao is quite an admirable shortcut.
