Reporter: Ahmed Awadallah, from the US, but he is an Egyptian national, and hes got a terrific story. Hes one of the delegates here. Ahmed, thank you very much for joining us.
Ahmed: Thank you for having me.
Reporter: So its obviously a great opportunity for you as well, coming from Egypt originally, and then now, in Australia. What an interesting trip, what an interesting life.
Ahmed: Yeah. Actually I grew up; I lived all my life in Egypt. I was born in a very small village north from Cairo, where I went to the public school. For all my life I have never touched a computer keyboard, never seen a computer, never spoke English. I graduated from a technical high school. I never went to college, and in 2007, I applied for a *Fulbright Scholarship. It was an opportunity for students from Egypt, who went to the technical school, and I was selected, and I had to learn English in six month before I travel to the United States and started at Northampton Community College in August, 2008.
Reporter: Six months.
Ahmed: Six months.
Reporter: …to learn English.
Ahmed: Yeah.
Reporter: And you didnt even have a computer?
Ahmed: Yeah. So it was hard. I was working as a full time teacher instructor at the technical school, so I had a whole day at the school, then I had to go at night for my English course, for four hours every day, then I had to speak English, which, I really like the language. I think it was just easy for me to learn it for some reason. So thats what had with me to just go
with the community college, and then I applied for the Cookstown University of Pennsylvania, which I attend right now to get my Bachelor degree in political science.
Reporter: And also I understand that youve been accepted by the London School of Economics as well. Ahmed: Yes. Yeah, thats actually my dream school. I have never thought I was gonna even visit the London School of Economics. I applied, I just think, you can just follow your dreams, and work hard and you can achieve whatever you want. I worked hard, and Im getting my Bachelor degree. Im graduating in May, in two month. I applied, like, at the end of fall semester to the London School of Economics, which I thought I will never make it, but I just applied. I applied for few other schools. I got accepted by the London School of Economics, which is a huge deal for me myself. So I think working hard really pays off.
Reporter: So you may get back to Egypt one day?
Ahmed: Yes. My ultimate goal, hopefully I can work for the United Nation one day and, in the long term, I really want to go back and hopefully I can work for the government and make a change in my country.
Reporter: Ahmed Awadallah, who is the Egypt representative at the World *Model United Nations; your story is an amazing one. Thank you very much for joining us.
Ahmed: Thank you for having me.
