多用口语习语(一)

英语中多数口语习语的功能都是单一的,例如How are you?How do you do?表示问候,Goodbye用于道别。但有些习语是多功能的,例如I?蒺m sorry.可以表示①说错话或做错事向对方表示“对不起”;②委婉表达不同意或为自己开脱的借口。下面就介绍一些这类多功能口语习语供学习参考。
1?郾Of course.
①当然
—Are you taking me into town?
—Of course?郾
Of course Peter is coming. He always comes to our parties.
②当说话人知道别人已知他正说的内容;有时用于强调自己的观点之前,“正如所期待的那样”,“我所说的是真的”。
The concert was good, of course, but it wasn?蒺t worth the ticket price!
The weather is bad again, so the buses are late, of course.
2?郾go on
①用于不相信某人所说的话:“我可不信”,“别夸张”。
—I?蒺m sixty on Sunday.
—Go on—you only look about forty?鄄five.(也可说成Go on with you.)
—I?蒺m sure there were over 1000 people in the square(广场).
—Oh, go on, it looked a few hundred at all.
②用于鼓励某人做某事,担保能干好。
—Shall I ring him or not?
—Oh, go on, you?蒺ll never make any friends if you don?蒺t.
3?郾forget it
①用于对道歉的回应:“没什么,别挂在心上。”
—I?蒺m sorry. I?蒺ve broken the cup. Let me pay for it.
—Oh, forget it. It was a very cheap one.
②告诉某人没有必要还钱。
—What about the money I owe you?
—Forget it.
③用于回谢:“别客气”,“小意思”,“不足挂齿”。
—How can I thank you enough for a lovely time this weekend, Willie?
—Oh, that?蒺t all right. Forget it.
4?郾as a matter of fact
①用于引出会使说话者意想不到或很吃惊的回答。
—I hear Mr Hilton is leaving. I wonder who will get(接替)his job?
—I am, as a matter of fact.
②用于强调所说的话,使之更肯定或更具体。
I didn?蒺t go to the club on Saturday. As a matter of fact, I?蒺ve not been there for months.
相同的表达还有:for that matter, in fact, in actual fact, in point of fact, the fact of the matter is。例如:This book will fascinate(使着迷)all students of the English language, and for that matter, all speakers of English, too.
又如:I?蒺ve not read the book, and the fact is neither has anyone else.
③事实上,真的。
—Was the play good?
—Yes, as a matter of fact, it was fantastic(令人着迷).
—相同的表达还有:in fact, in actual fact, in point of fact。例如:
It was a very cold day. In fact it was -10℃?郾
5?郾Sure.
①意为“当然”(美国用法=certainly或of course)。
—Can you come at five?
—Sure.
②用于回谢,意为“不客气”。
—Thank you for your invitation.
—Sure.
