Start-up of First in the World 10-kt/a-class Unit for Production of Methanol-based DMM3-8
The 10-kt/a-class demonstration unit for production of DMM3-8 (polymethoxydimethyl ether), which has been independently developed by the Chenxin New Energy Company with full intellectual property rights, has come online to operate smoothly. It is said that this is the first in the world 10-kt/a-class DMM3-8 production unit which reaches a DMM3-8 selectivity of around 50%, symbolizing that the development of downstream methanol derivatives has made breakthroughs to open a new route for utilizing the surplus methanol production capacity.
It is acknowledged that this technology uses methanol as the feedstock which is catalyzed by ionic liquids to synthesize DMM3-8 through formation of triformol. This company has established close ties of cooperation with the CAS Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics. The methanol utilization rate of this unit reaches 85% and the triformol conversion exceeds 90%, with the DMM3-8 selectivity being close to 50%.
