父亲节的由来

人们常说，父爱是一座山，高大威严；父爱是一汪水，深藏不露；父爱更是一双手，抚摸着我们走过春夏秋冬；父爱更是一滴泪，一滴饱含温度的泪水。上一期我们介绍了有关母亲节的文化知识，本期我们一起来探寻父亲节的由来。

Mrs.John Bruce Dodd,ofWashington(华盛顿),first came up with the idea of a “Fathers’Day”in 1909.Mrs.Dodd wanted a special day tohonor(纪念)her fatherWilliam Smart(威廉·斯玛特).His wife died while givingbirth to(生孩子)their sixth child.Mr Smart was left toraise(抚养)thenewborn(新生儿)and his other five children by himself on a farm in eastern Washington.After Mrs.Dodd became an adult,she realized thestrength(力量)andselflessness(无私)her father had shown in raising his children as asingle parent(单亲).

华盛顿州的约翰·布鲁斯·多德夫人在1909年首先提出设立“父亲节”的提议。多德夫人希望有一个特殊的日子来向她的父亲——威廉·斯玛特表示敬意。他的妻子在生他们第六个孩子时因难产而去世。斯玛特先生在华盛顿州东部乡下的农场里独自养大了六个孩子。多德太太成年后，她才意识到她父亲一个人养大孩子所表现的力量和无私。

Mrs.Dodd was the second child and the only girl in the family.She knew her father was verypainstaking(辛劳的).He worked very hard at the daytime.At night,he came home to do the housework and look after the children.After tens of years’hard work,Mr.Smart died from the overwork(过度劳累)for years.

多德夫人排行老二，是家里唯一的女孩。女性的细心特质，让她更能体会父亲的辛劳；斯马特先生白天辛劳地工作，晚上回家还要做家务和照料孩子。经过几十年的辛苦，斯马特先生过度劳累而病倒辞世。

In 1909,the year when Mr.Smartpassed away(去世),after Mrs.Dodd attended church celebarting(庆祝)Mothers’Day,she missed her father very much.She realized the love andefforts(努力)her father haddevoted(贡献)himself to raising his children,which werenot second to(不亚于)any mother.

1909年，正是斯马特先生辞世之年，当多德夫人参加完教会的母亲节感恩礼拜后，她特别想念父亲；直到那时，多德夫人才明白，她的父亲在养育儿女过程中所付出的爱心与努力，并不亚于任何一位母亲的辛劳。

The first Fathers’Day was celebrated on June 19,1910 in Washington.In 1966，PresidentLyndon Johnson(林登·约翰逊)officially(官方地)declared(宣布)the third Sunday of June as Fathers’Day.Fathers’Day has become a day to not only honor your father,but all men who act as fathers.

1910年6月19日，人们在华盛顿庆祝了第一个父亲节。林登·约翰逊总统最终于1966年宣布每年6月的第3个星期天为父亲节。父亲节现在已经成为向父亲及所有扮演父亲角色的人表达敬意的节日。
