M: Good evening, Mrs Wang. Welcome to the program.
W: Good evening. Its a great honor for me to be invited here.
M: Well. You have a special preference for hanfu. Could you talk about your understanding of it?
W: Yes. For me, the piece of historical clothing has untold stories and philosophical ideas in its every detail. Instead of imitating people as I used to do, I have jumped out of my comfort zone and found the style that suits me best. Through hanfu, I have found myself and so many unexplored things in my life.
M: You have such a deep understanding of hanfu. Will you be engaged in designing hanfu in the future?
W: Its highly unlikely. Although I have no talent in designing clothes, that doesnt stop me from liking them.

M: I dont know anyone. I just want to see the city and learn how to take public transportation here.
W: Oh. Well, the bus system isnt great. There are long lines, and the traffic is bad. Its a good thing you take the subway.
M: Good to know. Well, thank you for your help, Emily.
W: Not at all. Ill have to get a taxi to the sports center. There is a basketball game tonight.
M: Have a good night.
W: Thank you. Bye.

W: Boy, can I help you?
M: Yes. Im new here. Where should I go?
W: Well, this is a program for this morning which starts at 9:30. All the new students will first gather in the meeting room where youll be introduced to the staff.
M: Where is that?
W: Ill tell you in a moment. But just let me tell you the details of this mornings activities.
M: OK, then.
W: Firstly, at a quarter to ten, in the hall, which is next to the meeting room, the Director of the Studies will talk to you about the different courses and their requirements. This should last about 45 minutes. Then at about half past ten, the Student Union will talk about some social activities that we offer. Thats in the same place. He will finish at about 11:00. Then there will be a short break, after which youll be taken to Classroom 3 at about 11:15 for a test.
M: Oh, I cant believe Ill have to take a test.
W: Take it easy. Its not like an exam. It just helps us find your level of English and put you in the suitable class.
M: OK, I see.

Hello! Welcome to our online parent-teacher meeting. We are so excited to share information about our next field trip for first and second grade class. We will be going to the Hands On Childrens Museum in Olympia where the kids will be able to see exhibits on art and science. The date for the field trip is Tuesday, 28th February. So we will leave the school at 10 am and arrive at the museum around 10:30, and head back to the school around 12:30 pm. We will get a free bus ride, which is awesome because it will save us a lot of money. The cost per child is still not confirmed because we are waiting for the museum to apply a reduction, but it should not be more than 8 dollars. The museum requires one volunteer parent for every 5 children, so we will need at least ten of them. Also as a reminder that children need to pack their own lunch. If you wish to attend the field trip and volunteer, please let us know via email, by adding your name to the list linked below as soon as possible.

M: Sounds great! I cant wait.

M: That play was really great, wasnt it?
W: I thought the second half was a bit less interesting than the first. You could predict exactly what was going to happen.
M: Really? I wasnt sure how it would end. The actors were excellent though, werent they?
W: Well, actually I expected the performances to be a lot better. I must say the costumes were brilliant though.
M: I think youre a bit hard to please when you go to the theater, so why dont you choose the next play we see?
W: OK, well, I hope youll like what I choose!

M: Excuse me? I think I might be lost. Could you tell me where the gym is?
W: Oh, of course. What are you going to do there?
M: There is a basketball game tonight and I want to watch it. Im from Chicago. Boston is a beautiful city, but is difficult to walk around.
W: Im from New York, actually. But I have visited here before. I went to the gym for a drama and a tennis match last year.
M: Really? You must have been very familiar with the surroundings.
W: If I remember right, go four blocks south to the shopping center. Once you get to the center, turn left, and keep walking. Just past a hospital you will see signs for the gym. Follow the signs. It is ten blocks west from there, if I remember well. Its a twenty-minute walk, or you can take a bus.
M: OK, thank you.
W: Im heading to the mall to meet friends. We can walk together. Ill show you where to turn.
M: Lovely. Thank you so much.

M: It seems that you are very busy these days.
W: You cant imagine what I have to finish by next Monday. The literature course is so difficult. I have to read two novels by next Monday and hand in a 3,000-word essay by next Friday.
M: So you dont want to come to an exhibition with me this Saturday?
W: Id love to, but Im already behind with my writing class because I had a cold for a week and missed a few lessons. You seem to have lots of free time.
M: Well, we just dont have as much academic work as you. My college life is colorful compared with yours. There are various live performances as an art major.
W: Yes, Im bored with the life of reading and writing every day.
M: Why dont we stop talking? Just work now. If you have finished everything by the 16th, we could go to that new play.
W: Okay, Ill try. I dont want to miss the student party on the 28th.

Hello, welcome to the lab! It will be your workplace from now on. Please remember some rules I explain to you today. My name is Tony. I am your guide for this lab tour. As you may have been told already, there is a safety meeting once a week. There will be a brief test every two weeks. How you perform in this test could affect your salary. The most important information I want to give you now is about safety and cleanliness. First of all, the only acceptable shoes are sports shoes; dont wear jackets, or loose belts; you should wear full-protected clothing in the lab. Second, everything must be kept clean. Wash your hands before using any equipment. This is extremely important. Tools and jars should be kept absolutely clean and avoid any pollution. OK. Any questions?

W: Do you like hikes, Patrick?
M: Yeah. Ive been hiking since I was in elementary school. The area that I grew up is actually quite close to the Drakensberg which is a famous mountain range in South Africa and it runs almost the whole length of the country.
W: Cool. How often do you do hikes now?
M: I like to choose holidays for long-distance hiking trips, about twice or three times a year. And usually this kind of hiking trip takes me at least 20 days.
W: Wow! Ive always wanted to do short hikes in mountains, but Im worried about the safety. Are there any dangerous animals like snakes?
M: Well, South Africa is famous for its many poisonous snakes. But in all my years of hiking, Ive never been bitten by one. For me Id be more concerned about the weather. If you chose the wrong time to go hiking, youd be very likely to get caught in a snowstorm and freeze to death.

W: Im a foreigner here—this isnt my country. Its difficult for me—Im tired, Alex. I miss my family. I want to go home. My mother phoned last night and I just started crying when I heard her voice. It was horrible.

W: I cant. I have to finish my essay. Thats my university work. Last year everything was OK, but this year, I dont know, I cant do things on time. Everythings late.
M: Youre working too hard—you never have time to relax—thats why youre depressed. Well go out on Sunday. Now get out of bed, have a shower, sit down, and finish that essay. Youve got three hours before you have to go to work.
W: OK.
M: Then, on Sunday, well go to the city farm.
W: City farm? OK, Ive never been there—If I finish my essay.
M: You will. Now go for the shower. Ill make you some coffee.
W: Thank you, Alex.
