1.look up 查阅；抬头看

【讲解】look up 为“动词+副词”型短语，名词作宾语时，放在look与up之间或look up之后；人称代词作宾语时，只能放在look与up之间。

【拓展】与look相关短语：

look over（医生）仔细检查look at 看…… look up to 仰慕；钦佩

look down on 看不起

2.speed n. 速度；高速 v. 加速；快速前行；超速驾驶

【讲解】speed 过去式sped或speeded；过去分词sped或speeded

【短语】at high / low speed以高 / 低速；

at a speed of... 以……的速度 speed up 加速；使加速

【例句】Leo likes speed skating and he thinks its the most exciting event at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Leo喜歡速滑，他认为这是北京冬奥会上最激动人心的项目。

3.born v. 出生；天生；形成；产生（仅用于被动语态） adj. 天生的

【讲解】born作形容词时通常置于名词前作定语。

【搭配】be born with 天生具有 born to win 天生大赢家

4.ability n. 能力；才能

【讲解】ability 可数名词，复数形式：abilities

【短语】learning ability 学习能力 reading ability 阅读能力 writing ability 书写能力；写作能力 natural ability 本能

【搭配】the ability to do sth. 做某事的能力

have the ability to do sth. 有能力做某事；有做某事的能力

【拓展】able adj. 有能力的 unable adj. 不能……的；无法……的

【结构】be able to do 能够做某事 will be able to do 将能够做某事

【例句】But later you realize that without getting over those difficulties you would have never realize your further ability and strength.但后来你会意识到，如果不克服这些困难，你就永远不会意识到你的能力和力量。

5.attention n. 注意（力）；兴趣；关注

【搭配】pay attention to sth. / doing sth. 注意……；关注……

其中to为介词，其后可跟名词、代词或动词?ing形式。

【拓展】attract ones attention 吸引某人的注意 draw ones attention to 把某人的注意吸引到…… catch ones attention 吸引某人的注意

【例句】 To keep healthy， we should pay attention to wearing masks and washing hands. 为了保持健康，我们要注意戴口罩和洗手。

6.connect v. （使）连接 / 接通；把……联系起来

【讲解】connect...with... 把……和……连接或联系起来

【拓展】connection n. 连接

【例句】—Have you seen the film The Battle at Lake Changjin？

—Yes. It reminds people to be thankful for todays peaceful life. Our heart connects with national pride as well.
