According to Travel+Leisure, a travel magazine based in New York City, 8 of the 9 most popular amusement parks in the world have to do with Walt Disney. Why are his parks so popular? In fact, amusement parks in the past were very simple. The customer service was also poor. However, when Disney realized these problems, he made up his mind to improve the situation. So he went to ride toy trains with children in the parks because he wondered how the children felt. At the same time, he asked several children what their dream amusement parks would be like. The children said they wanted buildings in the parks to be like the palaces they saw in cartoons.

Walt Disney provided the children with what they wanted. After the first Disney World Amusement Park was built children rushed into it excitedly. Whenever there were new movies, Walt Disney made an effort to follow them.

You may wonder how he became so successful. As you can see, his secret is empathy.

In 1983, a talented young guitarist Dave was kicked out of his band. Although he was very unhappy, he still managed to start a new band which was the legendary (传奇的) heavy-metal band, Megadeth. Later, Dave was regarded as one of the most influential musicians in the history of heavy-metal music. Unfortunately, the band he was kicked out of was Metallica, which was considered one of the greatest rock bands of all time. And because of this, even with all that he had achieved, Dave couldnt help but still consider himself the guy who got kicked out of Metallica.

Lets look at another story. Pete was asked to leave by the other three members of the Beatles. Within six months of Petes firing, the Beatles became the most famous band on the whole planet. Pete understandably fell into a deep sadness. But Pete in many ways ended up better than Dave. He explained that his getting kicked out of the Beatles finally led him to meet his wife, then having their loving children. Fame and glory (荣誉) would have been nice, but what he already had was more important: a big and loving family, a happy marriage, and a simple life. Pete learned to see his life in a new light. He grew into a happy and healthy old man, with an easy life and great family—things that the four Beatles would spend years effort to achieve.

This is what “self-improvement” is really about: choosing better values, choosing better things to care about—things that matter, things that improve the state of our well-being and that bring happiness, pleasure, and success as side effects. Because when you give better changes, you get better problems. And when you get better problems, you get a better life.
