1.China’s State Council holds National Day reception

Oct.1,2022 (Xinhua)—China’s National Day falls on October 1.China’s State Council held a reception at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to celebrate the 73rdanniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.The reception was attended by the Communist Party of China (CPC) and state leaders Xi Jinping,Li Keqiang,Li Zhanshu,Wang Yang,Wang Huning,Zhao Leji,Han Zheng,and Wang Qishan,as well as nearly 500 guests from home and abroad.Addressing the reception,Premier Li Keqiang said that the CPC will convene its 20thNational Congress this year,and stressed the vital significance of the event.

2.CPC opens 20th National Congress

Oct.16,2022 (Xinhua)—The 20thNational Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) opens at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing,capital of China.Xi Jinping,Li Keqiang,Li Zhanshu,Wang Yang,Wang Huning,Zhao Leji,Han Zheng,and Hu Jintao attend the opening session.Xi Jinping delivers a report to the 20thNational Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on behalf of the 19thCPC Central Committee.

3.Malaysia’s mega train project ECRL fortifies environmental protection efforts

Oct.1,2022 (China Daily)—The East Coast Rail Link(ECRL),Malaysia’s mega rail project being built by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC),is taking additional steps to ensure the protection of wildlife in areas affected by its construction with the inking of a supplementary agreement.The ECRL runs from Malaysia’s largest transport hub Port Klang and travels across the peninsula to Kelantan state in northeastern Malaysia.The rail link is expected to greatly enhance connectivity and bring more balanced growth to the country by linking its less-developed region on the east coast to the economic heartland on the west coast upon its completion in 2026.

4.Indonesia’s vaccine hopes ride high

Oct.10,2022 (China Daily)—Indonesia’s development of its own COVID-19 vaccine will ensure that the country is independent and capable of controlling the pandemic.IndoVac,a recombinant protein vaccine,is developed by the state-owned pharmaceutical company Bio Farma and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston,Texas.With emergency use authorization now given,IndoVac can now be used as a primary dose for an unvaccinated or partially vaccinated adult in Indonesia.The vaccination program has helped bring the pandemic under control in the country,with about 80% of the vaccines now used made by Sinovac of China.

5.Cambodian PM says women entrepreneurs play vital role in ASEAN economic growth in post-pandemic era

Oct.12,2022 (Xinhua)—Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that women entrepreneurs have played and will continue to play a significant role in helping boost economic growth of the ASEAN in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era.Addressing the second ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit in Phnom Penh,Hun Sen said women entrepreneurs are a key driving force for sustainable and resilient socio-economic recovery and development toward building a common future and prosperity.The royal government of Cambodia has identified and promoted women as the backbone of national socio-economic development,by increasing investment in gender equality and promoting the role of women in development across sectors,and at all levels.

6.Chinese agricultural techniques help alleviate global poverty

Oct.16,2022 (China Daily)—China’s technique of growing Juncao,the herbal plant used in the growing of edible mushrooms,has contributed to global poverty reduction.The technique was later promoted from East China’s Fujian province to other areas in the country and has even reached 106 countries and regions around the world.More than 12,000 Chinese experts have been trained to promote the technique worldwide,contributing Chinese wisdom to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.Many people in the South Pacific,Latin America,and African countries have shaken off poverty through growing Juncao grass and mushrooms.

7.Myanmar exports over 811,812 tons of beans,pulses in 1st half of 2022-23 fiscal year

Oct.17,2022 (Xinhua)—Myanmar exported more than 811,812 tons of beans and pulses worth over US$ 637 million in the first half of the 2022-23 fiscal year,showed the Ministry of Commerce’s figures.From April 1 to September 30 this year,Myanmar shipped over 668,092 tons of beans and pulses via sea routes and transported over 143,720 tons of beans and pulses through land borders,the ministry said.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic,Myanmar has shipped most of its exported beans and pulses via sea routes,official figures showed.Myanmar exports beans and pulses to countries including China,India,and European countries.

8.1st Chinese-invested expressway in Cambodia sparks tourist influx to coastal province

Oct.18,2022 (Xinhua)—Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that some 200,000 vehicles had traveled on the kingdom’s first-ever expressway since it was open to the public for trial use for free on October 1.Invested by the China Road and Bridge Corporation,the 2-billion-U.S.-dollar Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway connects the capital Phnom Penh and the deep-sea port province of Preah Sihanouk.Ministry of Commerce’s undersecretary of state and spokesman Penn Sovicheat said that the expressway is crucial to serving both economy and tourism,saying that it helps ease traffic congestion,save travel time,and reduce transportation costs.
