A paper titled“Importance of hydrogenotrophic, aceticlastic and methylotrophic methanogenesis for methane production in terrestrial, aquatic and other anoxic environments:A mini review”by Prof.Dr.Ralf Conrad(Conrad,2020)was recently rated as a Hot Paper, the top 0.1%of papers in its academic field,in Web of Science. This is the first Hot Paper among the papers published inPedosphere, further proving the great improvement in the quality of this journal in recent years.
Prof.Conrad co-founded the Max-Planck-Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg,Germany with Prof.Rolf Thauer in 1991.He established the thermodynamic theory of sequential reduction in terrestrial aquatic ecosystem based on different microbial guild which explained the microbial mechanisms of soil as source or sink for atmospheric trace gases(Conrad,1989,1996;Peters and Conrad,1996).Prof.Conrad has served scientific advisory committees of various international organizations and received numerous prestigious awards including Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and Einstein Professorship of Chinese Academy of Science.Acting as one of the guest editors,Prof.Conrad helped in publication of an excellent special issue(Jiaet al.,2020)ofPedosphere.
