留意文中破折号，它对解题很重要

我们平时在做题中经常会碰到破折号。单个破折号表解释或说明，即破折号后面的内容解释或说明其前面的内容;两个破折号之间为补充说明成分，作插入语。

笔者梳理了近三年的高考真题，发现破折号对解题有不容忽视的作用。破折号在高考题中出现频繁，不仅涉及阅读理解的词义推测题，还涉及到细节理解题。同时在完形填空与语法填空题中均有不同频率的呈现。下面我们详细分析破折号在高考真题解题中的关键作用。

一、阅读理解中的破折号

考生可充分利用破折号起解释说明的作用，提高阅读速度和理解质量。如果破折号前面的信息很容易理解，那么破折号后面的内容一般略读甚至省略不读。反之，如果破折号前面的句子有生词，或读不懂，可以通过读懂破折号后面的内容以达到推测生词含义及理解全句的目的。

[例1]（2021年全国乙卷B篇） Still， 55 percent of Australians have a landline phone at home and only just over a quarter（29%）rely only on their smartphones， according to a survey （调查）. Of those Australians who still have a landline， a third concede that its not really necessary and theyre keeping it as a security blanket —19 percent say they never use it while a further 13 percent keep it in case of emergencies. I think my home falls into that category.

25. What does the underlined word“concede”in paragraph 3 mean？

A. Admit.B. Argue.

C. Remember. D. Remark.

解析：下划线单词所在句子有一个破折号。当前面句意我们看不太懂时，可转向破折号后的解释说明信息，即“19%的人表示他们从未使用过座机，另有13%的人保留座机以防紧急情况。”由这些附加信息可推测出破折号前是要传达“在那些仍使用座机的澳大利亚人中，三分之一的人承认座机并不是非常必要的，他们将其作为一种安全保障”，故concede 意为“承认”，选A项。“主张”“记得”“评论”与语境无关。

[例2]（2019年全国Ⅲ卷B篇）Of course， not only are todays top Western designers being influenced by China — some of the best designers of contemporary fashion are themselves Chinese.“Vera Wang， Alexander Wang， Jason Wu are taking on Galiano， Albaz， Marc Jacobs — and beating them hands down in design and sales，”adds Hill.

6. What do the underlined words“taking on”in paragraph 4 mean？

解析：由破折號后的信息，可知Vera Wang， Alexander Wang， Jason Wu 在设计和销量方面轻而易举地击败了Galiano， Albaz， Marc Jacobs这三位顶尖西方设计师。可推知taking on 在该句中表示“与……较量”，故选D项。

从上述例子可看出，破折号表示对前文的解释或说明。通过生词后的破折号的解释内容可推测出单词或短语的意思。

[例3]（2021年全国乙卷D篇）During an interview for one of my books， my interviewer said something I still think about often. Annoyed by the level of distraction（干扰）in his open office， he said，“Thats why I have a membership at the coworking space across the street — so I can focus.”His comment struck me as strange...

32. Why does the interviewer prefer a coworking space？

A. It helps him concentrate.

B. It blocks out background noise.

C. It has a pleasant atmosphere.

D. It encourages face-to-face interactions.

解析：由题干中的coworking space 定位至第一段第二句。根据破折号后的解释内容so I can focus 可知，采访者之所以成为合作办公空间的会员，是因为他认为这有助于他集中精力，故选A项，该项中的concentrate与文中的focus同义。

二、完形填空中的破折号

完形填空多次出现破折号，我们可利用此标点符号推断解题线索。利用破折号后的内容解释或补充破折号前的内容这一功能顺利答题。

[例1]（2019年全国Ⅲ卷） The small town of Rjukan in Norway is situated between several mountains and does not get direct sunlight from late September to mid-March —   21   six months out of the year.

21. A. onlyB. obviouslyC. nearlyD. precisely

解析：由空前的“does not get direct sunlight from late September to mid-March”及破折號可知，挪威的留坎小镇每年九月底到次年三月中旬这段时间没有阳光照射，空后的“six months out of the year”是对这段时间的说明，指“九月底到次年三月中旬”这段时间，是“将近”六个月。故用nearly，故选C项。precisely为“精确地”，与实际不符。

[例2]（2019年全国Ⅲ卷）“Of course， we notice it when the sun is shining，”says Karin Ro， who works for the towns tourism office.“We see the sky is blue， but down in the valley its darker — its like on a   24   day.”

24. A. cloudy  B. normal  C. different  D. warm

解析：由空前的破折号可知，此处是补充说明破折号前的内容，即“我们看到天空是蓝色的，但在山谷下面，它却更加黑暗，”让人感觉山谷里好像是“阴天”，故选A项。

三、语法填空中的破折号

命题者有意在插入语后命题，给考生的理解带来一定的困难和干扰。要解决这样的困扰，我们需了解：插入语在英语中属于独立成分，是对一句话进行附加解释或说明。通常由一个词、一个短语或一个句子构成，一般用逗号或破折号与句子隔开。由于插入语与句中其他成分没有语法上的关系，将它删掉之后，句子结构仍然完整。所以遇到此类题目时，我们应先删掉插入语来理解句子成分。

[例1]（2020年全国Ⅰ卷）The unmanned Change-4 probe（探测器）— the name was inspired by an ancient Chinese moon goddess —    61  （touch）down last week in the South Pole-Aitken basin.

解析：破折号后面有一个包含谓语动词was inspired的完整句子，又没有关联词that， which， where， when， why等，考生很容易把后面的touch当成非谓语动词。其实两个破折号之间的这个句子为补充说明成分，作插入语，把它直接去掉，不要让其成为干扰成分。显然，touch就应是谓语动词了，由last week 可知，用一般过去时，故填touched。

综上所述，留意文章中的破折号，利用破折号后的提示性信息可帮助我们快速筛选出解题的有效信息。我们在做题时一定不要轻易放过这不起眼的破折号，它往往会成为我们解题的一把密匙。
