[Abstract] Objective To investigate the clinical effect of mesalazine combined with berberine on the levels of TNF-α, IL-17 and IL-23 in patients with distal ulcerative colitis. Methods A total of 116 patients with distal ulcerative colitis admitted to the department of gastroenterology of our hospital from December 2016 to December 2019 were selected as the research objects and randomly divided into the observation group(n=58) and the control group(n=58). On the basis of conventional treatment, the control group was treated additionally with mesalazine, while the observation group was treated additionally with mesalazine combined with berberine hydrochloride retention enema. The two groups were treated for 21 days, and the clinical efficacy, symptom relief time, inflammatory factor level and adverse reactions of the two groups were investigated. Results The total effective rates were 94.8% in the observation group and 75.9% in the control group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05). The relief time of abdominal pain, diarrhea and mucous pus and blood stool was (3.2±0.6)d, (3.5±0.8) d and (4.7±1.1)d in the observation group, and (5.6±1.3) d, (6.1±1.7)d and (6.4±1.8) d in the control group, respectively, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05). The levels of inflammatory factors TNF-α, IL-17 and IL-23 were (15.68±3.26) ng/mL, (226.29±58.46) pg/mL and (324.85±39.24) pg/mL in the observation group and (24.17±4.61) ng/mL,(325.69±65.27)pg/mL and (431.42±43.77)pg/mL in the control group, respectively, and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05). The incidences of adverse reactions were 17.3% in the observation group and 19.0% in the control group, showing no statistically significant difference(P>0.05). Conclusion Mesalazine combined with berberine in the treatment of distal ulcerative colitis can significantly improve the clinical symptoms and the clinical efficacy, which has a good clinical reference significance.
