Chinese culture is the “root” and “soul” of the Chinese nation, which needs not only inheritance, but also continuous innovation.
How to help students feel and inherit Chinese culture during the busy study? Teachers and students of Donghai foreign language school in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province have their own ideas and actions. On January 28, 2020, more than 220 eighth graders of the school make use of the comprehensive art exploration course(綜合艺术探索课程)to copy and draw a 3-meter-long and 0.2-meter-wide historical scroll of “Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival”(清明上河图)in a month. With the help of the teacher, the students first found the original picture of the line draft of Qingming Riverside, printed it out, scaled down, cut it into 12 segments, and then completed it in groups.
In the process of creation, students first use pencil to make the manuseript(底稿), and then use needle pen or black water pen to draw more detailed lines, making the picture more vivid. After the students finished their creation in one month, the Tutor Wang Anqi put together 12 small copied paintings created by the students, mounted them, and sorted out 14 complete pictures of Qingming River. Each painting is not only an independent individual, but also a very powerful scroll when put together.
“Through this participation, I not only trained my hands-on ability, but also learned about the prosperity of the Northern Song Dynasty. Most importantly, I also had a stronger interest in learning history and traditional culture.” Liu Ziliang, a student of the school, said happily.
The long scrolls are not only the crystallization of students' collective creation, but also stand for students' hearts. In the form of group cooperation, the students complete the picture of Qingming River together, which is also to train the students' ability of unity and cooperation.
