Would you like to watch sitcoms in your free time? If you love stories about sisterhood(姐妹情深), creative minds and female independence(女性獨立), you shouldn’t miss the movie Little Women. Time chose it as one of the 10 best movies of 2019 along with Pain & Glory, The Irishman and others.
Little Women is based on the American author Louisa May Alcott’s novel of the same title. The story centers around four sisters—Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy—who lived through the American Civil War (南北战争).
At that time, women were not equal(平等的)to men, but Jo is brave enough to look for her own personal freedom. In order to become a writer, she refuses a marriage proposal(求婚)from Laurie, a rich and handsome man. On the other hand,Amy is more practical ( 实际的). She knows that she must marry up to help her family.
Although the four girls are different in many ways, it is their similarities. Their talent, their kind hearts, their ability to love —these things make them role models for young fans. Their coming-of- age stories show the important values(价值观)their parents taught them, as Common Sense Media noted.
The movie starts with the girls in their 20s and flashes back (闪回)to their childhoods, when they thought they could do anything. As they grow up, however, they need to face many difficulties in life. “ The way the world makes it hard for even talented and brave women to succeed is one of the points the movie is very much making,” the Los Angles Times wrote. And today it’s something a lot of girls and women can relate to (产生共鸣).
