In America， the winter vacation usually has two parts. The first part comes around Christmas Day， and the second part comes around Presidents’ Day. During the vacation， students have no homework to do and their parents never take them to any classes. Parents would like to give vacation back to children and let them spend their free time in experiencing society. Students often help the old to do some chores（做家务） or work as librarians. Parents in America and Canada also think vacations are the best time for children to read. About 60% of the students would like to spend time looking after the sick， cleaning the rivers and roads. More importantly， they think vacations are their own time. They should decide what they should do， so they often go camping and do other activities. Children can also go to museums， banks and police stations for visit. Learning to make food is also students’ favorite activities.

But in Germany， it is different. Children are not allowed to go out for a trip without their parents. So in the holidays， middle school students often have to stay at home. The German children like travelling， but most of them can only travel with their parents.

For some British students， it’s still a time to study because they have exams next term. Some might have to catch up on work they have not completed. But some students can let their hair down and celebrate Christmas and New Year with a few drinks.The holiday is also an important time to catch up with the family and maybe get some sleep too.

In Australia， a few students will stay in their own country to get part-time jobs（兼職）. It is quite easy to find a part-time job at Christmas. Students often take part in another social activity. They go to the beach to have fun in the sunshine. The summer in Australia is from December to February， so going to the beach in December is very popular among Australians.

The weather in Japan is colder than that of most of China. But the students can’t stay at home all day. We can see the children playing games in the snow. It’s part of the students training. The Japanese students also have the chance to take part in the activities which interested them.
